Finnegan Clinches Match at No. 1 Singles
DANVILLE, VA -- The Washington College women's tennis team, ranked seventh in the Atlantic South region, improved to 2-0 this season with a 9-0 sweep over host Averett University this afternoon.
The Shorewomen won all three doubles matches by identical 8-1 scores. Senior Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) and sophomore Amanda Bercovici (Hackensack, NJ/Bergen Tech) defeated Ilona Kilpi and Erika Weyner at No. 1, junior Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck, NY/St. George's School) and junior Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) beat Bethany Bradshaw and Justine Cherochak at No. 2, and sophomore Bethany Daller (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) and sophomore Amy Stevens (Street, MD/North Harford) bested Morgan Epstein and Daria Rogova at No. 3.
Washington also won all six singles matches by 6-0, 6-0, scores. Finnegan beat Kilpi at No. 1, Bercovici, ranked 20th in the region in singles, beat Weyner at No. 2, McNicol downed Bradshaw at No. 3, Daller blanked Cherochak at No. 4, Cohen topped Epstein at No. 5, and Stevens shut out Rogova at No. 6. Finnegan's win was the match-clincher.
The Shorewomen return to action tomorrow with a 3:00 p.m. match at Guilford.
