COLLEGEVILLE, PA -- The Washington College women's tennis team, currently ranked seventh ion the Atlantic South region, improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the Centennial Conference with a 7-2 win at Ursinus this afternoon.
The Shorewomen swept doubles play as senior Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) and sophomore Amanda Bercovici (Hackensack, NJ/Bergen Tech) beat Jimena Talavera and Heather McMasters, 8-1, at No. 1; junior Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) and junior Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck, NY/St. George's School) beat Dana McDonough and Jessica Tyrrell, 8-3, at No. 2; and sophomore Bethany Daller (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) and sophomore Amy Stevens (Street, MD/North Harford) bested Renee Tornea and Audrey Whitebloom, 8-4, at No. 3.
In singles play, Finnegan blanked McMaters, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1, McNicol beat Talavera, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 2, Daller downed Tyrrell, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3, and Cohen beat Whitebloom, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4. Ursinus won at No. 5 and No. 6 as McDonough beat Stevens, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5, and Jami Dumler defeated junior Kelsey Mils (Cambridge, MD/Cambridge-South Dorchester), 6-2, 1-6, 8-5 (ret.), at No. 6.
The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home match against Franklin & Marshall.
