Garnet Blank Short-Handed Shorewomen, 9-0

SWARTHMORE, PA -- Host Swarthmore College improved to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in Centennial Conference play with a 9-0 women's tennis win over visiting Washington College this afternoon. The Garnet entered the match ranked 11th in the Atlantic South region. The Shorewomen (8-2, 4-1), who played the match with just four healthy players, entered the match ranked seventh in the region.

Swarthmore picked up points by default at No. 3 doubles, No. 5 singles, and No. 6 singles over short-handed Washington. In the two doubles matches that played, Lia Carlson and Emily Rosenblum were 8-3 winners over junior Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) and junior Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck, NY/St. George's School) at No. 1, while Epiphany English and Kelsey Johnson defeated senior Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) and sophomore Amy Stevens (Street, MD/North Harford), 8-1, at No. 2.

In singles, Carlson, ranked third in the region in singles, beat Finnegan, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 1, while Rosenblum bested McNicol, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2. Katie Samuelson defeated Cohen, 6-0, 7-6(3), at No. 3 and Stephanie Chia topped Stevens, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 4.

The Shorewomen return to action Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at  Muhlenberg.
