#8 Blue Jays Shut Out Shorewomen, 9-0

BALTIMORE, MD -- Host Johns Hopkins University, the eighth-ranked team in Division III and fourth-ranked team in the Atlantic South region, blanked visiting Washington College, the region's seventh-ranked team, 9-0, in a Centennial Conference women's tennis match this afternoon in Baltimore.

The Blue Jays posted shutout wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Hailey Hogan and Nandita Krishnan, the region's fourth-ranked tandem, were 8-0 winners at No. 1 over seniors Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) and Gabie Batista (Sykesville, MD/Century), while Elaine Baik and Stephanie Rettig won by an identical score at No. 3 over junior Kelsey Mills (Cambridge, MD/Cambridge-South Dorchester) and sophomore Amy Stevens (Street, MD/North Harford). At No. 2, Abby Clark and Shannon Herndon, the region's sixth-ranked doubles team, beat juniors Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) and Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck, NY/St. George's School) by an 8-2 final.

The Blue Jays lost a total of just five games in singles. Hogan, ranked 13th in the region in singles, beat Finnegan, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1, while Krishnan, ranked 15th, bested McNicol, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2.  At No. 3, Herndon, ranked 19th, downed Cohen, 6-1, 6-0, while Clark bested Batista by an identical score at No. 4. Andrea Berlinghof shut out Stevens at No. 5, 6-0, 6-0, while Kaitlyn Coleman downed senior Meghan Tait (Oxford, PA/Oxford Area), 6-1, 6-0, at No. 6.

The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. Centennial Conference home match against Haverford.
