Shoremen Handle Elizabethtown, 131-36
CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Two Casey Swim Center records were broken as home standing Washington College breezed past visiting Elizabethtown, 131-36, in non-conference men's swimming this afternoon. The Shoremen improved to 5-1 with the win, while the Blue Jays dropped to 2-5 with the loss.
Junior Lucas Morgan (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) broke the first pool record of the meet, winning the 1650 freestyle in 17:02.78. Senior Austin Yocum (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest), sophomore Pat Elliott (Media, Pa./Salesianum School [Del.]), senior Greg Lee (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial), and junior Brent Longenecker (Maytown, Pa./Donegal) finished the meet by breaking the pool record in the 800 freestyle relay with an exhibition-entry time of 7:17.18.
Morgan was one of eight different Shoremen to win an individual event on the afternoon. Lee took the 200 freestyle (1:52.45), freshman Cody Weiler (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) won the 50 freestyle (22.38), Elliott won the 200 individual medley (2:05.62), Yocum finished first in the 100 butterfly (54.80), junior Charles Logan (Durham, N.C./Riverside) captured the 100 freestyle (50.44), sophomore Brent Hochstein (Towsend, Del./Salesianum School) won the 100 backstroke (56.83), and freshman Kevin Mackenzie (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College H.S. [D.C.]) finished first in the 500 freestyle (5:03.91). Weiler, Hochstein, Logan, and Mercando opened the meet with a winning time of 1:47.44 in the 200 medley relay.
Freshman Finny Dorsch (Towson, Md./Loyola Blakefield) was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:10.59 and touched the wall second as an exhibition entrant in the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.41. Weiler was second in the 100 backstroke (58.38), Longenecker took second in the 200 freestyle (1:53.68), senior Steven Bilinski (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) was second in the 50 freestyle (23.23), sophomore Danny Furman (Glen Arm, Md./Calvert Hall) placed second in the 100 butterfly (56.90), and sophomore Jason Mercando (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) was second in the 500 freestyle (5:12.47).
The Shoremen return to action one week from today with a 2:00 p.m. Centennial Conference meet at Dickinson.
