Samuels With Four Saves

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Cameron Ricciardi scored the contest's lone goal for host Swarthmore in the 55th minute in a 1-0 win over visiting Washington College at Clothier Field in a Centennial Conference men's soccer match on Wednesday night.  The Garnet improve to 7-7-3 overall and 3-2-3 in the Centennial, while the Shoremen drop to 9-7-0 and 3-5-0 respectively.

How It Happened
-Washington's first shot on goal came in the 12th minute on a free kick from Dimitri Kaliakin from 30 yards out, but his shot was saved by Swarthmore's Tyler Zon.
-Early in the 16th minute, Swarthmore got its first shot on target, but Billy Evers opportunity from 25 yards out was snagged on a diving save by Washington's Josh Samuels.
-The last shot for the Garnet came with just over four minutes left on an Evers shot, but his chance went wide.
-The final shot of the half came just under a minute left from the Shoremen's Drew Thompson, but his attempt was blocked by a Garnet defender and the contest went to halftime scoreless.
-In the second half, Swarthmore's Michael Nazfiger had the first shot on goal of the half 6:04 in, but Samuels was equal to the task and made the save.
-The Garnet took advantage of a free kick as Ryan Ward's shot off the restart hit the crossbar, but Ricciardi was able to get to the rebound.  His initial shot was blocked by a Washington defender, but he got his own rebound and put it in the net for the match's only goal at 54:43.
-The Shoremen's first shot on goal of the second half came at the 68:20 mark when Zon turned away Kaliakin's chance for an equalizer.
-Washington's final chance came with 2:17 to go when Skyler Clark's shot went wide right.

-Scorers: None
-Goalkeeper: Samuels (4 saves, 1 goal allowed, 90:00)
-Washington had 17 shots and six corners in the match.

For Swarthmore (7-7-3, 3-2-3)
-Scorers: Ricciardi (1 goal)
-Goalkeeper: Zon (3 saves, 0 goals allowed, 90:00)
-The Garnet had 13 shots and three corners in the contest.

Notes
-Despite the loss, the Shoremen were not eliminated from Centennial Conference Tournament contention.  Washington will need Johns Hopkins to lose or draw to McDaniel tomorrow night in order to still have a chance to reach the conference tournament entering the final day of the regular season on Saturday.
