Shorewomen Win Opener Against Captains, 14-11

Docktor, Parker Score Four Goals Each in Collegiate Debut

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Freshmen Cecily Docktor (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) and Virginia Parker (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spalding) each scored four goals in their first collegiate game as the visiting Washington College women's lacrosse team won its season opener, 14-11, over host Christopher Newport this afternoon in Newport News, Va.

How It Happened
- Christopher Newport's Catie Chess and Parker dueled early on. Chess scored two early goals for the the Captains before Parker put the Shorewomen on the board 5:01 in. Chess scored again with 23:53 left in the first off an assist from Meghan Galvin and Parker scored to cut the lead to 3-2 with 22:27 to play.
- Galvin then found Colleen Bourgal for a 4-2 CNU lead with 19:58 remaining. Docktor scored for Washington 31 seconds later, but Bourgal found Julia Golden for a goal with 18:59 left to make it 5-3.
- The Shorewomen then went on a 3-0 run with Parker scoring at 15:54 and Carley Kendall finding the back of the net twice at 14:55 and 6:42 left in the first, respectively, to put Washington ahead, 6-5. The Captains knotted the score at 6-6 on a Sarah Culver goal with 49 seconds to go before halftime.  
- Chess opened the second-half scoring 30 seconds into the period, putting Newport back in front, 7-6. The Shorewomen then ran off three goals in a span of 3:35 to take a 9-7 lead. Katherine Vincent scored with 28:43 left and Alli Dudley followed with two goals at 27:47 and 25:08, respectively. The Washington run grew to 4-0 when Docktor scored off an assist from Madison Acra with 23:38 left as the Shorewomen built a three-goal cushion at 10-7.
- Kylie Chaplin ended the Shorewomen's run with a goal with 18:58 left to get the Captains back to within two at 10-8, but Dudley assisted on goals by Kendall and Docktor with 18:15 and 17:22 left, respectively to give Washington a 12-8 lead.
- Galvin then scored for the Captains with 16:41 to go and found the back of the net with 10:16 left to trim the deficit to two at 12-10.
- Neither team would score again until Vincent found Docktor for the latter's fourth goal of the game with 5:22 remaining, upping the margin to three goals at 13-10. Galvin added another goal for the Captains with 4:36 left, but Parker scored her fourth for the Shorewomen with 3:51 remaining as Washington posted the three-goal win.

- Scorers: Docktor (4 goals), Parker (4 goals), Dudley (2 goals, 2 assist), Kendall (3 goals), Vincent (1 goal, 1 assist), Acra (1 assist).
- Goalies: Haylee Solomon (1 save, 6 goals allowed, 29:11); Madeline Mullen (5 saves, 5 goals allowed, 30:49)
- The Shorewomen held a 29-25 advantage in shots in the game and turned the ball over 11 times to the Captains' 16.

For Christopher Newport (1-1)
- Scorers: Galvin (3 goals, 2 assists), Chess (4 goals), Bourgal (1 goal, 1 assist), Chaplin (1 goal), Culver (1 goal), Golden (1 goal)
- Goalie: Emma Walsh (7 saves, 11 goals allowed, 45:36), Hanna Slough (2 saves, 3 goals allowed, 14:24)
