Martinez Clinches Win for Shorewomen with Victory at No. 3 Singles

SALISBURY, Md.— Visiting Washington College, the 40th-ranked team in Division III and eighth-ranked team in the Atlantic South region, posted a 6-3 non-conference women's tennis victory over host Salisbury, the region's ninth-ranked team, this afternoon. The Shorewomen ran their record to 8-2 with the win, while the Sea Gulls dropped to 13-5 with the loss.

Washington College 6, Salisbury 3

Doubles
- Rachel Martinez and Julie Lazer rolled past Claudia Lohn and Megan Soderlund, 8-2, at No. 2 for a 1-0 lead for the Shorewomen.
- Blair Kang and Krista Filiopoulos followed with an 8-5 win over Megan Knapp and Taylor Cooper at No. 3 to push the lead to 2-0.
- Salisbury picked up the point at No. 1 as Natalie Savage and Zoe Moffat, ranked ninth in the region in doubles, got past April Weaver and Marielle McIntyre, 8-6.  

Singles
- MP Hubert used a quick, 6-1, 6-0, win against Knapp at No. 6 to increase the advantage to 3-1 and Kang followed with a 6-4, 6-1, victory over Cooper at No. 5 to run the score to 4-1.
- Martinez clinched the win for the Shorewomen with a 6-1, 6-2, win against Lohn at No. 3.
- The Sea Gulls secured their second point of the match when Moffat, ranked 21st in the region singles, beat Lazer, ranked 25th, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2.
- Filiopoulos beat Soderlund, 2-6, 7-6, 10-4, at No. 4 as the Shorewomen's lead grew to 6-2.
- Savage, ranked 12th in the region in singles, provided the final margin with a 6-0, 7-5, win over Weaver, the region's 10th-ranked player, at No. 1.
