Martinez and Lazer Win at No. 2 Singles for Shorewomen

BALTIMORE, Md.— In a match between the last two women's tennis teams unbeaten in Centennial Conference matches this season, 11th-ranked host Johns Hopkins topped visiting 40th-ranked Washington College, 8-1, this afternoon. The Blue Jays, who are also ranked fourth in the Atlantic South region, improved to 10-4 overall and 6-0 in conference matches with the win. The Shorewomen, ranked eighth in the region, dropped to 10-3 and 6-1 with the loss.

Doubles
- Mikey Barthelmass and Ashnaa Rao, the region's sixth-ranked doubles tandem, beat Washington's April Weaver and Marielle McIntyre, 8-4, at No. 1.
- The Shorewomen's lone point came at No. 2 where Julie Lazer and Rachel Martinez edged Megumi Chen and Kimberly Zou, 8-6.
- Olivia Kasten and Anna Kankanala were 8-4 winners against MP Hubert and Krista Filiopoulos at No. 3.

Singles
- Chen, ranked eighth in the region, beat Weaver, ranked 13th, 6-2, 4-6, 10-5, at No. 1. Kankanala outlasted Hubert, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, at No. 5.
- The Blue Jays won the other four singles matches in straight sets. Sunaina Vohra beat Lazer, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 2, Caroline Greydak topped Martinez, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 3, Zou beat Filiopoulos, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 4, and Chrissy Simon bested Kiran Pant, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 6.
