Solomon Notches Career-Best 16 Saves and Tallies Personal-Hgh Five Ground Balls

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Visiting Washington College got a career-high 16 saves and five ground balls from junior goalie Haylee Solomon (Wantagh, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) in a 9-7 victory at host Haverford in a Centennial Conference women's lacrosse game on Wednesday night at Swan Field.

How It Happened
-Cecily Docktor scored the team's first two goals to give Washington a 2-0 lead 3:57 into the game.
-The Fords answered with four goals of their own to take a 4-2 lead with 18:01 left in the first half on a Sarina Manetta goal.  The four scores came in a 6:56 span.
-WC answered with four unanswered to take a 6-4 lead with 1:09 left in the first half on a Carley Kendall goal from Docktor.  The Shorewomen tied the game at 4-4 with 10:32 to go in the half when Rachel Kurtz stole a clearing attempt and scored unassisted.  Madison Acra put the visitors ahead for good at 5-4 with 9:40 remaining in the first half on a pass from Kendall.
-Haverford's Claire Cote forced a turnover with 25 seconds left and the transition opportunity for the Fords ended up with a Rina Rosnow goal from Christina Gould with seven second remaining to cut the Washington lead to 6-5 and that would be the halftime score.
-Kendall restored Washington's two-goal lead with 23:39 to go in the second half on a free position tally.
-The Shorewomen took their largest lead of the game at 9-5 with Kristy Grovom found Docktor for a goal from the right side with 16:42 remaining. 
-Haverford scored its first goal of the second half with 8:40 left on a Manetta unassisted goal to trim the Washington lead to 9-6. 
-The Fords trimmed the lead to 9-7 with 2:34 to go in the second when Risnow finished off a feed from Gould.
-Solomon thwarted Haverford's final two chances in the final minute to preserve the victory.

For The Shorewomen (9-5, 4-2 CC)
-Docktor and Kendall (three goals and one assist), Grovom (two assists),
-In Goal: Solomon (60:00, 16 saves, seven goals allowed, five ground balls to tie for game-high and set a personal-bet)
-Washington won 11 of the game's 17 draw controls and went 13-for-18 in clears.
-The Shorewomen won in spite of committing 22 turnovers.

For Haverford (8-5, 4-2 CC)
-Manetta (three goals and five ground balls to tie for tops in the game), Gould (three assists), Rosnow (two goals)
-In Goal: Megan Chenworth (60:00, nine goals allowed, six saves)
-The Fords outshot Washington 31-19 and held a 22-17 edge in ground balls.
-Haverford, who turned it over 13 times in the game, went 16-for-20 in clears.

Notes
-It was Washington's fourth straight win at Swan Field.  WC won in 2011 in the Centennial Conference Tournament and regular season games in 2012, 2014 and 2016.
-Solomon's previous high in saves was 13 also against Haverford on April 15, 2015 in Chestertown.
-Since 2010, the road team has won seven of the eight meetings.  The only win by the home team was an 8-7 WC win in 2015.
