Box Score Vincent Becomes 13th Shorewoman To Reach The 100-Goal Plateau
CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Sophomore attacker Kristy Grovom (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills) scored the game-winning goal from sophomore midfielder Caitlin Donovan (Baltimore, Md./Friends School of Baltimore) off of a free position attempt with 5:52 remaining to give host Washington College a 10-9 victory over visiting Christopher Newport in a non-conference women's lacrosse game on Friday afternoon at Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium in the season opener. In the win, senior attacker Katherine Vincent (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) chalked up her 100th career goal on her first tally of the game as she became the 13th Shorewoman to net 100 all-time scores.

How It Happened
- Washington scored the game's first five goals to take a 5-0 lead with 5:54 to go in the first half on Vincent's second goal of the game. During the five-goal run, Vincent tallied her 100th goal on a free position shot with 25:56 remaining in the first to give WC a 2-0 on a man-up tally.
- The Captains got on the board with 3:15 left in the first when Julia Golden finished off a feed from Meaghan Galvin. Washington took a 5-1 lead into halftime.
- In the second half, Christopher Newport scored five of the first eight goals to trim the lead to 8-6 with 18:23 left on a Galvin free position.
- After the Shorewomen made 9-6 with 17:05 remaining on the first career goal by Aubrey Robinson, the Captains scored the next three to tie the game at 9-9 with 10:12 left by Culver. Culver scored all three during the run.
- Culver appeared to give Christopher Newport a 10-9 lead with 7:35 to go, but she was ruled to be in the crease and that wiped out the score.
- On the ensuing possession, Donovan was fouled leading to a free position try. Donovan found a cutting Grovom on the left side and she netted the winner with 5:52 to go.
- The Captains, last chance came with 41 ticks left, but Washington goalie Haylee Solomon stopped Culver's shot and the Shorewomen were able to run out the clock.
For The Shorewomen (1-0)
- Scoring: Vincent (team-high four goals, three free position scores and tied for game-best with four draw controls), Grovom (two goals), Madison Acra (one goal and one assist)
- In Goal: Solomon (60:00, six saves, nine goals)
- Madison Schutz (three ground balls to tie for game-high)
- The Shorewomen outshot the Captains, 24-22, and won 12 of the game's 21 draw controls.
- WC went 15-for-17 in clears and went 6-for-14 in free position shots.
- Washington scored three man-up goals in the win.
For Christopher Newport (0-2)
- Scoring: Culver (game-best six goals), Galvin (two helpers and one goal to go along with four draws to tie for tops in contest)
- In Goal: Emma Walsh (60:00, seven saves, 10 goals)
- Mariah Ginebra (three ground balls to tie for game-best)
- The Captains went 16-for-18 in clears and had three fewer turnovers than WC, 16-13.
- Christopher Newport went 4-for-6 in free position chances with Culver going 3-for-4.
- The guests had a 14-11 advantage in ground balls.
Notes
- The four other players to notch their 100th career goal this decade are Corinne Ziccardi '13 (2013), Emily Hubley '15 (2014) and Carly Eisenbrandt '14 (2014). Eisenbrandt was the most recent Shorewoman to reach the 100-goal plateau as she did it on March 12, 2014 versus St. Lawrence in Florida in a 17-10 victory. In the game before that, scored her 100th goal in a 24-14 win over visiting Susquehanna on March 7, 2014. Ziccardi notched her century goal on March 5, 2013 in a 14-8 triumph over visiting St. Mary's (Md.).
- Vincent was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewomen Player of the Game during the webcast of the game as she now has 103 career goals.
- Captains' head coach Lisa Valentine was an assistant coach here at Washington for the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
- Donovan tallied her first career assist on the Grovom winner.
- 10 of the 19 goals in the game were free position goals.
