Stevenson Spoils Shoremen's Opener with Pair of Second-Half Goals

Keller Scores First Collegiate Goal in Loss

OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Host Stevenson University scored twice in the second half to rally for a 2-1 non-conference win over visiting Washington College in the men's soccer season opener for both schools this afternoon at Mustang Stadium.

How It Happened
- Christian Keller gave the Shoremen a 1-0 lead at the 36:07 mark when he tapped a ball to his left to evade a defender and then sent the ball into the near corner past a diving Jake Brown. The goal was the first of Keller's collegiate career.
- The Shoremen held an 8-2 advantage in shots in the first half, putting four of those on goal to the Mustangs' one.
- The Mustangs evened the score at 63:16 when Christian Beteta scored off an assist from Eric Dorsey on a corner kick.
- Stevenson took the lead on a penalty-kick goal by Iliyas Mirza at 72:32.
- Brian Graham got off a shot in the box for the Shoremen in the 74th that was saved by Brown. A James Strine shot from the top of the box, also stopped by Brown, proved to be the final Washington shot of the game as Stevenson held on for the win. The Mustangs notched a pair of shots in the final two minutes.

- The Mustangs tallied 12 total shots in the game, six of them on goal, and five corner kicks. Stevenson had 10 shots and four corner kicks in the second half.

Notes
- Keller, a sophomore, missed all of last season due to injury, receiving a medial redshirt. He played in seven games two years ago.
- The loss snapped a streak of seven consecutive victories in season openers for the Shoremen. Their last season-opening loss was a 4-0 defeat against Salisbury on September 1st, 2009.
