Blue Jays Pull Away from Shorewomen for 63-45 Win

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Visiting Johns Hopkins University pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 63-45 win over host Washington College in a Centennial Conference women's basketball game this afternoon inside Casey Swim Center.

How It Happened
- The Blue Jays used eight unanswered points to build a 10-4 lead in the first quarter and held a 13-8 advantage at the end of the period.
- Hopkins scored 12 of the first 16 second-quarter points to push the lead to 25-12 on a Maggie Spitzer lay-up with 5:52 on the clock. The Shorewomen cut the lead to nine by halftime as a Caitlyn Clark lay-up with 0.4 seconds to go trimmed the margin to 31-22 at the break.
- A Bridget McLaughlin jumper 53 seconds into the third quarter got the Shorewomen back to within seven, but the Blue Jays scored eight of the next 10 points for a 39-26 lead on a Lillian Scott three-pointer with 4:44 left in the period. McLaughlin ended the quarter with a buzzer-beating jumper to get Washington to within 10 points at 43-33.
- That was as close as the Shorewomen would get, however, as the Blue Jays opened the fourth with a 17-4 run for a 60-37 lead courtesy of a traditional three-point play by Lexie Scholtz with 3:59 to play.  

For the Shorewomen (4-3, 2-2 Centennial Conference)
- McLaughlin (11 points); Clark (9 points, 5 assists); Taylor Samuels (9 points, 3 steals)
- The Shorewomen shot 28% from the field, 2-for-6 from three-point range, and 11-of-14 at the free-throw line.

For Johns Hopkins (6-1, 3-1 Centennial Conference)
- Scholtz (18 points, 10 rebounds, 4 steals); Scott (14 points); Diarra Oden (9 points); Rory Cole (11 rebounds)
- The Blue Jays shot 37% from the field, 6-for-21 from three-point range, and 9-of-13 at the free-throw line. They also held a commanding 51-30 rebounding advantage.

- Clark was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewomen Player of the Game.
