Lazer Notches Win Against Regionally-Ranked Opponent

SALISBURY, Md. — Host Salisbury University defeated Eastern Shore rival Washington College, 5-4, in a non-conference women's tennis match today. The Sea Gulls, who are ranked 14th in the Atlantic South region, improved to 9-3 with the win, while the Shorewomen (ranked 20th in the region) fell to 7-2 with the loss.

Salisbury 5, Washington College 4

Doubles
- The Shorewomen took a 1-0 lead thanks to an 8-1 win at No. 3 by Riley Katzman and Ella Samer against Taylor Cooper and Ariana Leggio.
- The Sea Gulls tied things up with an 8-5 win by Jordan Schaefer and Sydney Soto over Krista Filiopoulos and Sarah Bruno at No. 2
- Salisbury pulled back ahead, 2-1, when Annika Kezman and Julia Kwedi, ranked 15th in the region in doubles, edged out Julie Lazer and Rachel Martinez, 9-8(7), at No. 1.  

Singles
- The Sea Gulls picked up their third point ranks to a 6-4, 6-4, win by Soto over Samer at No. 4.
- Lazer upset Kezman, the region's 11th-ranked singles player, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1 to get Washington back to within a point at 3-2.
- Shannon Hickman notched Salisbury's fourth point with a 6-3, 6-3, victory against Kiran Pant at No. 6. Filiopolous rallied for a 1-6, 6-0, 6-2, win at No. 4 to cut the margin to 4-3.
- Kwedi clinched the match for Salisbury when she finished her 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-3, victory against Martinez at No. 2. Bruno then complete her 6-7(7), 7-5, 6-4, win at No. 5 to provide the final margin and Washington's last point.

Notes
- Filiopoulos now has 98 career combined singles and doubles wins, Lazer has 96, and Martinez has 91.
