Box Score Team Upsets Nationally Ranked Opponent For Third Straight Year
CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Host Washington College used a pair of three goal runs in the second half to upset visiting 25th-ranked St. Mary's College of Maryland 10-9 in a non-conference women's lacrosse game played today on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.

How It Happened
- The Seahawks scored three of the first four goals to grab a 3-1 lead with 18:33 left in the opening half on a free position goal from Sydni Thacker.
- An unassisted goal from Kristy Grovom cut the lead to 3-2 with 17:49 to go before St. Mary's scored two straight goals to set the lead at 5-2 with 2:29 left in the opening half following a goal from Lucy Gussio.
- Alison Pantazes scored just 17 seconds later to cut the lead to 5-3 before Jayne Barkman scored an unassisted goal with 1:15 left to give the Seahawks a 6-3 lead.
- The Seahawks won the next draw but turned it over with 25 seconds left in the half, and Colleen Keefe would score a goal off a Cecily Docktor assist with 1.4 seconds to go to cut the lead to 6-4 at halftime.
- Thacker scored off an assist from Caitlin Katchmar with 25:03 to go to give the Seahawks a 7-4 advantage.
- The Shorewomen would score the next three goals to tie the game. Anna Bennett scored an unassisted goal, followed up by a Grovom goal off a Pantazes assist. Pantazes would cap the run with an unassisted goal with 17:45 to go to tie the game at 7-7.
- Ali Collie gave St. Mary's the lead back at 8-7 with an unassisted goal with 16:35 to go.
- Washington then ran off another three goal run to take the lead for good. Pantazes would tie the game with 14:09 to go by scoring a free position goal. Keefe gave the Shorewomen a 9-8 lead with 13:12 to play by scoring off an assist from Sydney Allender. Docktor would then score off an assist from Lauren Brenner with 9:57 to go to put Washington on top, 10-8.
- A man-up, free position goal from Katchmar cut the lead to 10-9 with 3:00 to play.
- The Seahawks would get the ball back following a Washington turnover with 1:08 to go, but would turn it over themselves with 36 seconds to play as the Shorewomen were able to run out the remainder of the clock.
For the Shorewomen (6-2)
- Scorers: Pantazes (3 goals, 1 assist), Keefe (2 goals), Grovom (2 goals), Docktor (1 goal, 1 assist), Aubrey Robinson (1 goal), Bennett (1 goal), Brenner (1 assist), Allender (1 assist).
- Goalie: Isabella Richardson (6 saves, 9 goals allowed, 60:00).
- Bennett led all players with three caused turnovers, while Docktor led all players with five draw controls.
- The Shorewomen outshot the Seahawks 32-25, held a 12-9 advantage in draw controls, and a 21-17 edge in ground balls.

- The Seahawks turned the ball over 20 times and were just 16-for-24 on their clear attempts.

- Pantazes was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewomen Player Of The Game on the webcast of the game for the third time in her career.
- Today's win marks the third consecutive year that the Shorewomen have upset a nationally ranked team. Washington defeated #20 Muhlenberg 19-9 in 2017 and #25 Haverford 16-11 last year.
