Shorewomen Get Past Bears, 5-4, to Win Centennial Opener

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. — The Washington College women's tennis team won its Centennial Conference opener this afternoon, topping host Ursinus, 5-4, in Collegeville, Pa.

Doubles
- Alisha White and Ella Samer were 8-2 winners for the Shorewomen at No. 1, defeating Caitlyn Sorelle and Brenna Trkula.
- Washington also won at No. 3 as Sarah Bruno and Hayley Sanchez topped Madisen Harvey and Jessica Leach, 8-3.
- The Bears got a point at No. 2 as Maddie Russell and Cara Freedman were leading, 5-2, when Cecilia Cress and Riley Katzman retired.

Singles
- The Shorewomen won three of the five contested singles matches as the Bears picked up No. 6 by default.
- White beat Sorelle, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, at No. 1, while Cress was a 6-7(5), 6-0, 6-0, winner against Trkula at No. 3 and Bruno topped Summer Burkholder, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 4.
- Ursinus won at No. 2 as Russell downed Samer, 7-5, 5-7, 10-3, and at No. 5 as Harvey bested Sanchez, 6-1, 6-2.

Notes
- The Shorewomen improved to 3-3 overall with the win. The Bears slipped to 5-6 overall and 0-2 in conference matches.
