Shorewomen Start Fast in 14-5 Victory over Profs

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College scored the game's first six goals in the opening 11:34 of the contest and never trailed on its way to a 14-5 win over visiting Rowan in a non-conference women's lacrosse game on Wednesday afternoon at Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium.  The Shorewomen improve to 1-1 on the year, while the Profs drop to 0-2.

How It Happened
- Washington wasted little time taking the lead for good 35 seconds into the game on a goal by Anna Bennett.
- After Morgan Sutherland made it 2-0 with 23:46 to go in the first half, Colleen Keefe scored consecutive goals to make it 4-0 with 21:03 remaining in the first half on a free position score.
- Sutherland capped the 6-0 run with her second goal of the game with 18:26 remaining in the opening half.
- Dara Hennessy got the Profs on the board with 13:02 remaining with Erin Renshaw getting the assist to cut the lead to 6-1 as Rowan scored three of the final four goals of the first 30 minutes.  Elise Cohen scored both for the Profs to trim the Shorewomen's lead to 7-3 at halftime.
- In the second half with WC leading 8-4, Olivia Miller picked off a Rowan clearing attempt with just over 19 minutes to go and Sutherland finished off the possession with a goal to put Washington ahead 9-4.  The score began a game-closing 6-1 run for the hosts.
- Ashley Devlin capped the scoring with her first career goal on a feed from Sydney Allender to put the Shorewomen ahead 14-5 win 2:32 left in the game.

For The Shorewomen (1-1)
- Scoring: Keefe (five goals and one assist; setting career-highs in goals and points with six), Bennett and Sutherland (three goals and one assist), Miller (two goals)
- In Goal: Sydney Wingate (60:00, five saves, five goals)
- Bennett (seven draw controls), Abby Laubach (five draw controls)
- The Shorewomen won 13 of the game's 21 draw controls.
- WC went 16-for-19 in clears, went 5-for-6 in free position shots and 13 ground balls while outshooting the Profs 36-12.

For Rowan (0-2)
- Scoring: Cohan (three goals)
- In Goal: Reilly Shaup (60:00, 14 saves, 14 goals)
- Cohan and Shannen Sterner (two draw controls)
- The Profs went 11-for-17 in clears and had six more turnovers than WC, 19-13.
- Rowan went 1-for-2 in free position chances and totaled 13 ground balls.

Notes
- In two meetings versus Rowan, Keefe has nine goals and two assists for 11 points.
- Bennett moves into sixth place all-time in draws at Washington with 127.
