BALTIMORE, Md. – Even though the visiting Washington College field hockey team fell to host #5 Johns Hopkins 5-0 in Centennial Conference field hockey action on Wednesday evening at Homewood Field, the Shorewomen got the two results they needed elsewhere to clinch a spot in the 2022 Centennial Conference Tournament as Bryn Mawr topped Swarthmore, 3-0, and Ursinus edged Haverford, 3-2, to return to the tournament for the first time since 2017. The Shorewomen, who will be participating in their 11th conference tournament next week, are now to 8-8 overall and 5-4 in the Centennial, while the fifth-ranked Blue Jays improve to 13-3 and 9-0 respectively.

How It Happened
- The Blue Jays struck just 85 seconds into the game as
Abby Birk completed a transition opportunity with a goal from the shortside on the right with
Tessa Erickson picking up the helper.
- Johns Hopkins scored 1:17 later when
Sadie Abboud scored off a rebound into the lower left corner of the cage to make it 2-0 only 2:42 into the first quarter.Â

MaryCate Anson would get Washington its first shot of the game 8:52 into the first off of a penalty corner, but her shot went wide left. The hosts would take a 2-0 lead into quarter two.
- Neither team scored in the second quarter and the Blue Jays would take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
- In the third,
Julianna Sterling get the Shorewomen's lone shot on goal, but it was saved by
Alexis Loder with 10:49 to go in the quarter.
- Abboud would get her second goal of the night with 9:33 to go in the third as she finished off a pass from Erickson into the right side of the cage.Â
Emily Amsden would make it 4-0 with 6:21 to go in the third as she converted a penalty corner into the upper right portion of the goal and that would be the score after three.

Gen Mehra rounded out the scoring with 3:10 to go in the fourth.Â

- Rivera's previous high in saves was 13 on September 14 at Catholic.
- Prior to this season, Washington qualified for the Centennial Conference Tournament in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2017.
- WC sits one game ahead of Haverford and Swarthmore in the conference standings, who both sit at 4-5, but the two teams play each other on Saturday and the loser cannot catch the Shorewomen, who own the tiebreaker on both teams.
- The Shorewomen will play in a first round on game on Tuesday, November 1 at a site and opponent to be determined.
