CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College survived a late game surge from the visiting Diplomats which saw Franklin & Marshall take the lead by three points, 51-48, with 57 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. The Shorewomen fought back to take the lead with two seconds left on a lay-up by
Joy Sanders to take the victory Saturday afternoon at Penny J. Fall Gymnasium in the Centennial Conference women's basketball opener for both teams, 53-52. The Shorewomen move to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in Centennial play, while the Diplomats fall to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in conference action.

How It Happened
- Washington went on a 10-0 run to start the game after a three-pointer by
Amari Faust.

Jaclyn Feit got the Diplomats on the board with a layup with 5:18 remaining in the first quarter.
- Franklin & Marshall would cut the Shorewomen lead down to four halfway through the first at 10-6 after
Natalie Kolb knocked down both free throws.
- Midway through the second quarter Washington built up their largest lead of the game of 18 points at 26-8 after
Lizzie Hudock made two free throws with 5:29 remaining in the second.
- The Diplomats scored the last five points of the half with
Quinn Galligan making a three-pointer for the last bucket of the quarter as neither team scored in the remaining 1:47 with the Shorewomen leading 28-17.
- Over a four-minute span during the third quarter Franklin & Marshall went on a 11-0 run to bring the Shorewomen lead down to just one point, 35-34, following a
Lizzie Neville basket with 3:29 to go in the third.
Rachel Theim responded with back-to-back jumpers to retrieve a comfortable lead for Washington.
- Both teams traded points during the fourth quarter until Kolb got the Diplomats within one of the Shorewomen once more, 48-47, with 2:27 left. From there
Kennedy Wilburn made a jumper to give Franklin & Marshall its first lead of the contest, 49-48, with 1:45 left to go in regulation.
- Neville gave the Diplomats their largest lead of three points, 51-48, with 57 seconds to go with a layup. Washington tied the game at 51-51 with 11 seconds to go on a basket by Sanders after a free throw by
Kaitlyn Boggs with 44 seconds left cut it to 51-49.
- The Diplomats would take the lead again, 52-51, with seven seconds remaining after Kolb made one of her free throws. After a timeout called by Washington, Sanders won the game for the Shorewomen with a layup with two seconds left to go.
For The Shorewomen (3-0, 1-0 CC)
- Sanders (13 points and five rebounds),
Andrea Prestianne (11 points, eight rebounds and 5 assists), Hudock (10 rebounds)
- Washington shot 33.8% from the floor (22-for-65), 26.7% from beyond the arc (4-for-15), and 83.3% (5-for-6) from the free throw line.
- The Shorewomen outrebounded the Diplomats 44-36.
For Franklin & Marshall (1-3, 0-1 CC)
- Wilburn (14 points and eight rebounds), Feit (10 points, eight rebounds and four blocks), Neville (11 points), Kolb and Galligan (three assists)
- Diplomats shot 29.6% (16-for-54) from the field, 15.8% (3-for-19) from three-point land, and 94.4% (17-for-18) from the foul line.
- Franklin & Marshall tallied five mores steals than the Shorewomen, 11-6.
Notes
- Sanders named Goose Nation TV Shorewoman Player of the Game for the second time this season. She put up a team-high in points and secured the victory for the Shorewomen.
- Washington College has now won the last three meetings between the Diplomats and the Shorewomen.
- Both teams scored 24 points in the paint.
