CHESTERTOWN, Md. –
Ryan Lawson has been named the Director of Athletic Communications and Academic Affairs at Washington College. Lawson comes to Maryland's Eastern Shore following a nearly two-year stint as a graduate assistant at the University of Wyoming.

Lawson is looking forward to the opportunity here at Washington College.

"I'd like to thank Athletic Director Thad Moore and the rest of the WAC Athletics Department for giving me this fantastic opportunity. I'm looking forward to creating a way to promote and follow all of the athletic programs and student-athletes involved at WAC. Can't wait to get to Chestertown and get to work!"
Since the summer of 2021, Lawson has been a graduate assistant in the athletics media relations department and lecturer at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming. He has served as a statistical spotter, social media manager, stat personnel person and television crew member for network games. He assisted with game stats for men's and women's basketball, football, women's soccer, volleyball and wrestling during his time with the Cowboys and Cowgirls. He was a part of the athletics media relations team for Wyoming during the First Four in the 2022 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament. He was a lecturer for eight sections of Public Speaking within the University's Communications School.
Prior to his time in Laramie, he served as a data operator for Major League Baseball, serving as a stringer for the Gastonia Honey Hunters of the Independent League in Gastonia, North Carolina. He operated MLB Gameday statistical software and assisted in the "Robot Umpiring" testing.
Lawson was a Public Information Coordinator at the Medical University of South Carolina's National Mass Violence Resource Center from April 2019 through October 2020 in Charleston, South Carolina as part of a project funded by the United States Department of Justice. He served as the public relations contact with law enforcement, service providers, media and public. Lawson was the manager for the center's website content, social media, graphic design and media relations. He also served as an exhibitor at mental health and victim conferences both nationally and internationally on behalf of the center.
Lawson is a 2018 graduate of South Carolina where he majored in Journalism and Mass Communication. During his time at South Carolina, he was a reporter for
The Daily Game Gamecock and
Carolina News and Reporter where he covered sports, news and politics in South Carolina. He is expected to receive his master's degree in Communications from Wyoming in May 2023.
Lawson will start his role at Washington College on January 16.
