Washington College Student-Athletes Post Combined 3.36 Spring GPA

Washington College's athletic teams enjoyed another tremendous semester in the classroom! The combined spring '22 GPA was 3.36 after the Shoremen/Shorewomen posted a 3.33 last fall. Sixteen of eighteen squads turned in a team GPA of 3.00 or better. 

Four teams, women's tennis (3.79), women's swimming (3.71), field hockey (3.66), and women's lacrosse (3.61) were particularly impressive.

Individually, a total of 122 student-athletes recorded a 3.75 or higher and 63 earned perfect 4.00's.

The Lynette Nielsen Professional Practice Award: Awarded annually by the department faculty to the studio art senior who demonstrates the most engaged, dedicated, and consistent creative practice over the course of the SCE year. Noah Smith (women's soccer)

The Rachel Scholz Leadership Award: Awarded to a graduating senior who, in the judgment of the Education Department, has demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and disposition of an outstanding teacher-leader. Noah Smith (women's soccer)

The Education Department Award: Awarded to a graduating senior who, in the judgment of the department, has shown the promise of meaningful contributions to diversified pedagogy, cultural sensitivity, and global awareness within the fields of education and the liberal arts. Colin Brown (baseball)

Washington College Premedical Professional Award: Awarded to the graduating biology major who has demonstrated academic excellence, who is pursuing a medical or veterinary degree, and who has a strong potential for success in the medical or veterinary fields. Alison Buckwalter (women's swimming)

Department of Biology Academic Achievement Award: Awarded to the graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and exceptional depth of understanding in the field of biology. Alison Buckwalter (women's swimming)

The Alpha Chi Omega Music Award: Given to a senior in recognition of excellence in music. Alison Buckwalter (women's swimming)

The Department of Biology Research Award: Awarded to the graduating biology major who has demonstrated excellence in academics and undergraduate biological research. Nathaniel Braddock (men's swimming), Trevor Frederick (baseball)

The Department of Business Management Senior Capstone Experience Award: Awarded to a graduating business major with the most outstanding senior research project demonstrating high scholarship and analytical skills. Ryan Colbert (baseball)

The Rebecca Corbin Loree Business Leadership Award: Awarded to a Washington College senior who has demonstrated outstanding academic ability and leadership potential for business. Max Ruvo (baseball)

Middendorf Award for Academic Excellence: This award is given annually to the student who has exhibited outstanding academic accomplishments in environmental science or studies. Analiese Bush (women's rowing)

The Phi Alpha Theta Award: Granted to the graduating senior history student whose dedication best supports the mission of the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society to promote the study of history through research, teaching, publication, and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians.  Kitri Post (women's rowing)

The International Studies Award: Given to a graduating major who, in the opinion of the department, demonstrates an exceptional understanding and interest in international affairs. Peri Bertolami (women's soccer)

The John S. Toll Prize in Physics: Awarded to a graduating senior showing exceptional promise in the field of physics. Anna Hall (women's swimming), Chloe Sass (women's lacrosse)

The Political Science Award: Given to a graduating major who, in the opinion of the department, demonstrates a superior theoretical and practical understanding of political life. Ben Ruvo (baseball)

The Sociology Service Award: Awarded to the graduating senior who, in the opinion of the department and its students, has made, through service, the greatest contribution to the sociology program at Washington College. Alisha White (women's tennis)

The Penny J. Fall Award: Given annually by the Washington College Student Government Association to the female athlete who most successfully continues, through service to the College, the tradition and legacy set by Professor Fall. The recipient is chosen for her leadership on campus and her ability to conceive, organize and execute academic and extracurricular activities that have benefited the entire Washington College community. Alisha White (women's tennis)
