Maroons Best Shorewomen, 79-66, in Susan Dunagan Holiday Classic Championship Game

Hudock Registers Double-Double; Sanders and Prestianne Named to All-Tournament Team

SALEM, Va. – Host Roanoke got a game-high 25 points from Rose Sande in a 79-66 over visiting Washington College on Friday night at the Cregger Center in non-conference women's basketball action in the championship game of the 2022 Susan Dunagan Holiday Classic.  The Maroons are now 9-1 on the season, while the Shorewomen are 7-3.  Senior guards Andrea Prestianne (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) and Joy Sanders (Baltimore, Md./Cristo Rey Jesuit) earned spots on the all-tournament team.

How It Happened
- The Shorewomen scored the game's first four points to lead 4-0 on a Karry Kelliher jumper 45 seconds into the game.
- Roanoke would respond with eight straight points to take an 8-4 lead with 6:48 to go in the first quarter on a Sande three-pointer.  The run gave the Maroons the lead for the rest of the quarter and held a 24-19 advantage after one.
- In the second quarter, Roanoke opened the stanza on an 11-4 run to take a 35-23 lead with 7:34 to go on a Rose triple.
- Bryson Ostrum completed a 5-0 run for Washington to trim the hosts' lead to 35-28 with 6:17 left in the second on two from the foul stripe.
- The Maroons would push their lead up to 14 with 42 seconds left, 47-33, on a Lauren Keel jumper and took a 47-35 lead into halftime as Prestianne netted a jumper with 12 ticks left to close out the scoring in the second.
- In the third quarter, the Shorewomen scored the first seven points to reduce the hosts' lead to 47-42 with 6:13 to go on a Kelliher layup.
- Roanoke answered with the next six points to lead 53-42 with 2:04 to go on two Sayre Brandstetter free throws and took a 54-46 lead heading into the fourth. 
- The Maroons opened the fourth on a 12-4 run to take their biggest lead of the game of 16 points, 66-50, with 5:59 left on a Sande lay-in.
- Washington would chip away at the lead and cut it to seven on two occasions, the final time with 48 seconds left on a Lizzie Hudock putback bunny to make it 72-65.  However, Roanoke scored seven of the final eight points to salt the contest away.  

For The Shorewomen (7-3)
- Hudock (team-high 14 points and game-best 12 rebounds), Prestianne (13 points), Sanders (10 points and two blocks), Serena Pluta (10 points), Kelliher (two steals)
- WC shot 37% from the floor (25-for-67), 7% from three-point range (1-for-15) and 68% (15-for-22) from the foul line in the game.
- The Shorewomen turned it over 14 times.
- Washington outscored Roanoke in points in the paint, 28-18.

For Roanoke (9-1)
- Sande (game-high 25 points), Peyton Kirchner (11 points), JaBryah Havercamp (10 points), Brandstatter (four assists and two steals), Keel (seven rebounds)
- The Maroons shot 41% from the floor (25-for-61), 37% from three-point land (10-for-27) and 61% from the foul stripe (19-for-31).
- Roanoke outscored Washington, 21-8, in points off turnovers, 17-15, in bench points, 13-10, in second chance points and 9-7 in transition points in the game.
- The hosts held a 46-40 edge on the glass, while turning it over 16 times.

Notes
- It was the first ever meeting between the two programs.
- The Shorewomen conclude their non-conference schedule 4-1 as the team's final 15 regular season games will all be in the Centennial.
- Hudock's 14 points were a season-high for the senior as she recorded her third career double-double and first this season.
