Box Score Keefe Scores Game-Best Six Goals and Wingate Stops 11 Shots
OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Visiting Washington College outscored host Stevenson 11-3 in the second and third quarters to win its first season opener since 2018 in a 16-8 win in a non-conference women's lacrosse game on Saturday afternoon at Mustang Stadium. The Shorewomen are now 1-0 on the season, while the Mustangs drop to 0-3.

How It Happened
- Caroline Murphy put the hosts ahead 6:09 into the first quarter, 1-0, before Ellie Morrall tied the game on a free position goal 59 seconds later. The scored was level at 1-1 after the opening quarter.
- The Shorewomen took their first lead of the game 3:37 into the second quarter as Sydney Allender scored on an up goal from Molly Sharpe after Sharpe won a free position. Allender made it a 3-1 game exactly 2:27 later with Ashley Devlin netting the helper.
- Kaitlyn Kozlowski got the Mustangs within one, 3-2, on a pass from Kara Yarusso with 8:02 left in the second.
- Washington would score three times in 99 seconds to take a 6-2 lead. Sharpe started it with Devlin picking up the assist with 5:44 remaining in the second. Colleen Keefe would score the next two, the first unassisted with 4:42 to go and the second from Morgan Sutherland with 4:05 left in the quarter.
- Lanie Crotty capped the second quarter scoring with 57 seconds left from McKenna Blick to get Stevenson within 6-3 at halftime.
- WC opened the third with three tallies a span of 2:04 to extend the lead to 9-3. Devlin finished off a pass from Sutherland to open the third quarter scoring 1:26 in to make it 7-3. Morrall would net her second free position score of the afternoon 1:13 later to push the advantage to five goals. Keefe would finish the outburst from Abby Laubach with 11:30 to go in the third.
- Sutherland scored her first of the day to make it 10-3 with 9:15 remaining following a turnover by Stevenson for an up goal and Morrall notched her third of the day 71 seconds later to make it 11-3.
- Blick ended the five-goal run by WC unassisted with 7:19 to go in the third to cut the lead to 11-4, but just 68 seconds later Keefe scored the team's third up goal from Laubach to make it 12-4 and that would be the score entering the fourth quarter.
- In the fourth quarter, Blick scored the first two to cut the lead to 12-6 with 10:55 remaining in the contest. However, Keefe responded with two of her own in a span of 48 ticks to restore the eight goal lead at 14-6 with 7:34 to go.
- Each team scored twice the rest of the way to provide the final margin. WC did lead by as many as 10, 16-6, with 3:06 to go on an Allender goal.

- Scoring: Keefe (game-high six goals), Sutherland (two goals and two assists), Allender and Morrall (three goals), Devlin (three assists and one goal), Sharpe (career-high three points on one goal and two helpers), Laubach (two assists)
- In Goal: Sydney Wingate (58:32, 11 saves, seven goals), Emily Markley (1:28, zero saves, one goal)
- Morrall (game-high seven draw controls to set a personal-best)
- The Shorewomen won 16 of the game's 28 draw controls.
- WC went 12-for-14 in clears, went 4-for-6 in free position shots and six ground balls.

- Scoring: Blick (three goals and one assist), Crotty and Yarusso (goal and helper)
- In Goal: Sophie Shucosky (37:49, two saves, 13 goals), Caitlyn Lane (22:11, two saves, three goals)
- Kozlowski (three draw controls to lead team)
- The Mustangs went 11-for-13 in clears, had three more turnovers than WC, 15-12.
- Stevenson went 1-for-3 in free position chances and totaled seven ground balls as they held a 24-23 advantage in shots.
Notes
- It was the Shorewomen's first win in a season opener since a 10-8 win over Albright in 2018.
- Stevenson assistant coach/recruiting coordinator Taylor Blick was an assistant coach for Washington during the 2020 season.
- The Shorewomen won their first road game in the series since a 17-9 win in 2005 when Stevenson was known as Villa Julie. It was just the third home game for the Mustangs in the series since the 2005 contest.
- Starting this season, women's lacrosse will be four 15-minute quarters instead of two 30-minute halves.
