Box Score Ewing, N.J. – The Washington College women's tennis team dropped their first match of the season as the Shorewomen were defeated by the College of New Jersey by a score of 9-0, Friday afternoon at the TCNJ Recreation Center. The Shorewomen fall to 3-1 while the Lions improve to 5-1.
The match opened with the Lions taking all three double points. Charlotte Roarty/Jenny Landells handed junior Irene Meng/senior Alisha White an 8-5 defeat at the No. 1 spot. Alexa Vasile/Chase Eisenberg bested sophomores Piper Sartison/M.C. Diaz-Nazario, 8-2 and Anusha Rangu/Aira Abalos downed juniors Katie Ruppert/Bin Nguyen on the No. 3 court.
Roarty blanked Meng at the top flight, 6-0, 6-0 to set the tone in singles play. No. 2 Abalos defeated White, 6-3, 6-2, Sartison was forced to retire after dropping the first set, 6-3, against Vasile, Nguyen lost 6-0, 6-2 against Rangu, and Ruppert fell 6-1, 6-0 versus Eisenberg. Wahington defaulted at the No. 6 slot.
The Shorewomen will take on Ithaca and Webster next Tuesday in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
