Seahawks Win High Scoring Contest over Shorewomen, 24-18

Laubach Nets Career-High Seven Points; Keefe and Morrall Score Five Each

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Host St. Mary's (Md.) used a 9-0 run spanning the third and fourth quarters to turn a 15-14 deficit into a 23-15 lead on its way to a 24-18 win over visiting Washington College in a non-conference women's lacrosse game on Wednesday afternoon at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium.  The Seahawks improve to 3-3 on the year, while the Shorewomen fall to 2-4.

How It Happened
- The Shorewomen scored three of the final four goals of the first quarter to take a 5-4 lead after one with Sydney Allender putting WC ahead to cap the scoring in the first with 1:33 to go.
- St. Mary's scored the first three goals of the second quarter to take a 7-5 lead with 10:03 left on a MC Mortimer goal that capped a run of three scores in 2:32 for the Seahawks.  The run would ignite an 8-3 second quarter for the hosts as they took a 12-8 lead into halftime.  Lucy Gussio gave St. Mary's a 12-7 lead with 1:44 left before Colleen Keefe got the Shorewomen within four with 55 seconds remaining in the second.
- In the third quarter, St. Mary's scored the first two goals to take a 14-8 lead with 12:59 remaining in the third quarter on a Colin Horton tally.
- Washington would score the next seven goals to take a 15-14 lead with 4:32 left on an Ellie Morrall up finisher.
- Lucy Gussio would tie it 22 seconds later and would start a run of six straight by the Seahawks to finish the third quarter.  Kelly Emge put St. Mary's back ahead 16-15 with 3:24 left in the third and Gussio finished the scoring in the third from Hailey Betch with 24 ticks to go to give the home team a 20-15 advantage heading into the fourth.
- The Seahawks scored the first three of the fourth as Gussio capped the 9-0 run with an up goal 11:27 left to give St. Mary's a 23-15 lead.  Morgan Sutherland put an end to the run with her third of the game with 9:01 left to cut the deficit to 23-16.
- The Shorewomen scored two of the last three goals to provide the final margin.

For The Shorewomen (2-4)
- Scoring: Laubach (career-highs of four goals, three assists and seven points; two caused turnovers), Keefe (five goals), Morrall (career-high five goals), Sutherland (three goals and one helper), Allender (goal and assist)
- In Goal: Sydney Wingate (30:00, two saves, 12 goals allowed), Emily Markley (30:00, 10 saves, 12 goals allowed)
- Morrall (six draw controls), Molly Sharpe (game-high and career-best five ground balls) and Ellie Bossi (two caused turnovers)
- WC went 15-for-18 in clears, scored four up goals, went 3-for-7 in free position shots and 19 ground balls.

For St. Mary's (Md.) (3-3)
- Scoring: Gussio (game-bests of seven goals, five assists and 12 points), Horton (five goals and six points), Betch (three goals and two helpers), Emge (three goals), Lucy Davison (two goals and one assist), Mortimer (goal and two assists; three caused turnovers), Bella Dunigan (two goals)
- In Goal: Nancy Slaughter (60:00, nine saves, 18 goals allowed)
- Betch (16 draw controls), Jayne Barkman (three groundballs)
- The Seahawks went 13-for-15 in clears and had two more turnovers than WC, 14-12.
- St. Mary's held a 46-34 advantage in shots, netted two up goals, went 2-for-4 in free position chances and totaled 15 ground balls.

Notes
- The 18 goals were a season-high for the Shorewomen and the most against the Seahawks since scoring 21 in 1983.
- Keefe moved closer to 100 career goals as her five scores today gives her 96 all-time goals.
