Wingate Makes 10 Saves and Sutherland Scores Twice For Washington

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Visiting Mary Washington got game-highs of five goals and six points from Katie Blair in a 7-5 win over host Washington College in a non-conference women's lacrosse game on Wednesday afternoon at Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Jr., Stadium.  The Eagles move to 4-3 on the season, while the Shorewomen drop to 2-5

How It Happened
- With the scored tied 2-2, Morgan Sutherland gave Washington College its first lead of the game with 29 seconds left in the first quarter to give the Shorewomen a 3-2 lead after one.
- Blair tied the game, 3-3, just 53 seconds into the second before Ellie Morrall restored the Shorewomen lead at 4-3 with 7:06 to go in the second quarter and that would be the halftime score.
- In the third quarter, the Eagles scored the first three goals to take a 6-4 lead with 6:02 left on a Molly Daw score from Blair.  Blair put Mary Washington ahead for the rest of the game, 5-4, with 11:36 remaining in the third.
- Sutherland cashed in on a free position with eight seconds left to cut the Eagles' lead to 6-5 and that would be the score entering the fourth.
- WC's last chance to try to tie the game at 6-6 came with 6:00 to go in the fourth on a shot by Morrall, but her shot was stopped by Mary Washington goalie Reilly Miller.
- On the ensuing possession, Blair was fouled and converted a free position with 4:52 remaining to give the Eagles a 7-5 lead to complete the scoring.

For The Shorewomen (2-5)
- Scoring: Sutherland (two goals and career-high six ground balls), Morrall (goal and assist; five draws)
- In Goal: Sydney Wingate (60:00, 10 saves, seven goals allowed)
- Ashley Devlin and Abby Laubach (three caused turnovers)
- WC went 10-for-14 in clears, went 2-for-6 in free position shots and had 23 ground balls.
- The Shorewomen held a 24-20 advantage in shots and had one fewer turnover than the Eagles, 18-17.

For Mary Washington (4-3)
- Scoring: Blair (game-bests of five goals and six points; five draw controls), Kayla Sarazin (two assists)
- In Goal: Miller (60:00, 13 saves, five goals allowed; four ground balls)
- Samantha Stachowiak (two caused turnovers) and Meredith Farley (four ground balls and two caused turnovers)
- Mary Washington had 21 ground balls.
- The Eagles went 15-for-25 in clears and went 1-for-3 in free position chances.

Notes
- Sutherland was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewomen Player of the Game on the broadcast.
- Both teams won eight draw controls in the contest.
