Shorewomen Hang Tough, Fall to #22 Haverford, 16-14

Keefe Scores a Team-High Four Goals

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Washington College women's lacrosse team went blow-for-blow with No. 22 Haverford, but ultimately fell to the Fords at Swan Field, 16-14. The Shorewomen move to 4-8 on the year and 2-3 in Centennial play, while the Fords jumped to 9-3 on the season with a 4-1 record in conference action.

How It Happened
- The hosts struck first in the contest, securing their first free position attempt of the game after just 21 seconds of play. Haverford's initial shot attempt was missed, but sophomore midfielder Lizzie Healy sent a shot into the net after the miss. Haverford led, 1-0.
- Washington College responded in just four seconds. Following a draw control by junior midfielder Ellie Morrall, sophomore defender/midfielder Abby Laubach grabbed her first score of the day. The goal knotted the contest at 1-1.
- The remainder of the first followed the same pattern, with the teams trading goals throughout the period. Haverford junior attacker Sam Silverman was up next, giving the Fords a 2-1 advantage that would last for almost four minutes.
- With 10:03 remaining in the quarter, Washington senior attacker Colleen Keefe evened the contest once more. This score held until the 4:14 mark when Fords senior midfielder Roma Hladky knocked one home to retake the lead. Shorewomen sophomore attacker Morgan Sutherland ensured that lead did not stay long, evening the tally once more. Before the quarter expired, Haverford senior midfielder Callie Crawford snuck a score past the Shorewomen to take a 4-3 lead through 15 minutes.
- Washington earned an early free position attempt in the second following a Haverford foul. With the numbers advantage and the free position, senior defender/midfielder Molly Sharpe scored to tie the game for the fourth time in the early going, 4-4.
- The Fords punched back with a three-goal run spanning just over four minutes. Hladky took over, scoring all three goals in the stretch herself. With 8:34 to play in the second, Haverford led 7-4.
- After the Haverford run, the sides alternated two-goal runs. Washington broke the Fords run with 5:55 remaining, courtesy of Keefe's second finish of the game. Less than three minutes later, sophomore middie Ellie Bossi scored her second goal of the season to cut into the margin, 7-6. Two new faces scored for the Fords in the response, as junior midfielder Julia Curran and first-year midfielder Tiffany Mikulis notched goals to retake the three-goal lead, 9-6.
- Including Mikulis's goal, the final two minutes of the half yielded four total goals. Washington College cut back with 1:48 to go, as Keefe completed the first-half hat trick. Haverford's Hladky tallied her fifth first-half goal exactly a minute later before Washington's Sutherland snuck in the final goal of the first half. At the break, the Fords led 10-8.
- The Shorewomen came out of the locker room swinging. With less than a minute off the clock in the third, Keefe buried one home unassisted to again slim the margin, 10-9.

- After nearly eight scoreless minutes, Mikulis responded with an unassisted knock of her own for the Fords. Haverford's response widened the gap again, 11-9.
- The two sides traded goals to finish the third. Washington's Morrall scored to make it a one-goal game with 3:36 to go, followed by another Hladky goal for the Fords. With just 22 seconds to go in the frame, Shorewoman sophomore attacker Ashley Devlin joined the scoring column. Through 45 minutes, Haverford's lead was back to just one, 12-11.
- More of the same followed in the fourth. Haverford's Silverman opened the period to continue the pattern before Washington's freshman attacker Tobin Chambers returned the lead to one with her unassisted goal. Haverford's Hladky scored her seventh and final goal of the game two minutes later, and Washington's Laubach sent an answer into the net two minutes after that. With 8:33 to play, Haverford led, 14-13.
- With just over seven minutes to go, the Fords earned their final insurance. Sophomore attacker Jordan Denaver scored on an assist from junior attacker Katharine Ference to return the lead to two, and Crawford scored with 3:41 to go to establish their largest lead of the half, 16-13.
- Washington's Morrall scored with 2:20 remaining to give the Shorewomen attack some life, but the guests could not best Haverford as they fell, 16-14.
