Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Washington College women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision against the #35 Haverford Fords, in a Centennial Conference contest on Tuesday afternoon at the Johnson Fitness Center. The Shorewomen fall to 7-4 (1-2) while the Fords improve to 6-5 (1-2).
Doubles
Haverford won two of the three doubles flights to open the match and never looked back. Emily Oh/Abbey Russano bested junior Irene Meng/sophomore Piper Sartison, 8-3, to claim the first victory at No. 2 doubles. Anne Tobbin and Mimi Lavin followed at No. 1 doubles with an 8-5 triumph over senior Alisha White and sophomore Maria Cristina Diaz-Nazario. The Shorewomen cut the deficit to a point after junior Bin Nguyen/junior Katie Ruppert edged Summer Williams/Rachael Fitzgerld, 8-7 (7-3).
Singles
Diaz-Nazario recorded the lone victory for Washington College in singles as she defeated Oh, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 4 slot. Russano defeated Meng at the No. 1 position, 6-4, 6-4, Fitzgerald downed White, 6-4, 6-4, Lavin bested Sartison at No. 3, 6-2, 6-4, and Williams knocked off Nguyen, 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 5 spot. Annie Barrett won at No. 6 over Ruppert, 6-4, 6-2.
