READING, Pa. – Host Alvernia won seven of the final eight points in the fifth set to overcome a 12-8 deficit to win the set 15-13 and the match 3-2 (25-23, 22-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-13) over visiting Washington College in non-conference volleyball action at the Physical Education Center. It was the season opener for the Golden Wolves and Shorewomen.

How It Happened
- Tied 21-21 in the opening set, Alvernia won four of the final six points to come away with the two-point win as
Rachel Sipling ended the opening set with a kill.
- In the second set, the Shorewomen won two of the final three points to get the three-point victory as
Courtney Maxwell (Middletown, Del., Caravel Academy) finished the set with a kill.
- Alvernia led 24-20 in the third set before Washington won the next two to trim the lead to 24-22 on an ace by Maxwell. On the next play, the Golden Wolves ended the set on an assisted block by Sipling and
Lindsay Ferguson.
- The Shorewomen held a 24-20 advantage in the fourth before the hosts won the next two points to cut the lead to 24-22 on an attack error by WC. A service error by Alvernia forced the fifth set as it gave the guests the set.
- Washington led 12-8 in the fifth set following a service miscue by the Golden Wolves before Alvernia began its set and match clinching rally. The Golden Wolves cut it to 12-11 following an attack error by the Shorewomen.
Angelina Schaber (Carlsbad, Calif., San Dieguito Academy) would give WC a 13-11 lead on a kill, but Alvernia would win the next four points to win it. An attack error by the guests gave the hosts a 14-13 lead and a ball handling error by the Shorewomen secured the win the Golden Wolves.
