Sterling Afternoon: Senior Tallies Career-Best Five Points and Factors in Three of Four Scores

Shorewomen Handle Mustangs 4-0

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Senior forward Julianna Sterling (Salisbury, Md., James M. Bennett) tallied a career-high five points on two goals and one assist as visiting Washington College registered a 4-0 victory at Stevenson in a non-conference field hockey game on Saturday afternoon on Owings Mills East.  The Shorewomen improve to 3-1 on the year, while the Mustangs drop to 3-2.

How It Happened
- Washington took the lead 1:53 into the first quarter as Sterling scored on the game's first shot to complete a counter and it would account for the scoring in the opening 15 minutes.
 - Sterling scored her second goal of the first half with 51 seconds left in the second quarter as she received a pass from Jules Weglarz (Bear, Del., Appoquinimink) and scored from the center of the circle following WC winning a penalty corner.  The Shorewomen would take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
- Kat Esposito (Severna Park, Md., Severna Park) pushed the visitors' lead to 3-0 with 8:33 to go in the third as she finished off a pass from Alexis Tackney (Annapolis, Md., St. Mary's) at the goalmouth.
- The Shorewomen extended their cushion to 4-0 as Tackney got her first score of the game from Sterling with 8:21 remaining in the fourth from about six yards out.
- Stevenson had three penalty corners in the final 2:32 to try to end the shutout, but could not generate a shot.

- It was the 21st all-time meeting between the two Maryland schools with Washington holding an 18-3 advantage.
