Lancaster, Pa. – The visiting Washington College women's soccer team earned a draw in their Centennial Conference opener against the No. 25 ranked Franklin & Marshall Diplomats, on Saturday afternoon at Tylus Field. The Shorewomen now stand at 3-1-2 (0-0-1 Centennial) while the Diplomats are 4-0-2 (0-0-1 Centennial)
Freshman goalkeeper
Hailey Sharpe (Holmdel, N.J., Holmdel) made eight saves to help secure the tie for the Maroon & Black, who have allowed just three goals all season.
How It Happened
- The Shorewomen had their first opportunity to break the tie with eight minutes remaining as senior forward
Lauren Maynor (Ellicott City, Md., Howard) was presented with a chance to capitalize on a defensive miscue inside the box. F&M goalkeeper Emma Nolan collided with one of her defenders as the ball trickled to a wide-open Maynor at the seven-yard line. Nolan, however, was able to rise to her feet just in time to make a diving save to her left on Maynor's attempt.
- The hosts came down the field just twenty-five seconds later and also had a good opportunity but Alex Wilson's unobstructed shot from 15 yards out was turned away by Sharpe.
- Washington College had their best opportunity of the contest in the 88' but freshman midfielder
Maddy Gaydon (Gettysburg, Pa., Gettysburg Area) was unable to convert on a one-on-one opportunity with Nolan. Junior midfielder
Audrey Flanagan (Huntingtown, Md., Huntingtown) initiated the play with a gorgeous lead pass from midfield and Gaydon managed to sprint past a defender and run onto the feed inside the box. Nolan made a great decision to leave her line and challenged Gaydon, who then put the ball just over the crossbar.
