Shorewomen 50-50 in Second Day of Worthington Classic

Maxwell Named to All-Tournament Team

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington College volleyball team went 1-1 on Saturday afternoon in the second day of the Worthington Classic hosted by Gallaudet at the Field House.  The Shorewomen swept Elmira, 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-12), in the first match of the day before falling to Catholic, 3-0, (25-15, 25-21, 25-12) in the second match.  Senior outside hitter Courtney Maxwell (Middletown, Del., Caravel Academy) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

How It Happened
- The Shorewomen overcame a 9-2 deficit in the opening set to the Soaring Eagles to take a 12-11 lead on a Brooklynn Pugner (Berlin, Md., Stephen Decatur) ace.  Leading 19-18, Washington scored the last six points to win the set as Angelina Schaber (Carlsbad, Calif., San Dieguito Academy) and Logan Kenny (Boiling Springs, S.C., Boiling Springs) teamed up for a block to end it. 
- In the second set, Washington led Elmira 17-14 before going on an 8-2 run to win the set as Lindsay Saddic (Downingtown, Pa., Downingtown East) ended it with a kill.
 - Tied 5-5 in the third, the Shorewomen went on an 11-2 run to grab a 16-7 advantage on an attack error by the Soaring Eagles.  Sylvia Johnson (Catonsville, Md., Catonsville) ended the match with a finisher.

For The Shorewomen (8-4)
- Schaber (seven kills and four blocks), Jordan Fairchild (Litchfield Park, Ariz., Agua Fria) (11 digs and five aces), Allison McKechnie (Aliso Viejo, Calif., Jserra Catholic) (16 assists and 11 digs), Kenny (five blocks)
- Team hit .188 in the contest, notched six rejections and served up 10 aces.

For Elmira (5-9)
- Maddie Boucher (six kills), Asia Curkendall (15 assists), Samantha Garry (three blocks), Amelia Martin (10 digs)
- The Soaring Eagles hit .000 in the contest, had four blocks and one ace.

Notes
- The two teams were meeting for the first time since September 2001.

Catholic 3 Washington College 0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-12)

How It Happened
- Leading 15-10 in the first set, Catholic won five straight points to go ahead 20-10 on an attack miscue by Washington.  A service error by the Shorewomen clinched the opening set for the Cardinals.
- The Cardinals won six of the last nine points to win the second set by four points, clinching it on a hitting error by the Shorewomen.
- In the third set, Catholic raced out to a 9-3 lead on an attack miscue by WC.  Brynne Burgess ended the match with an ace.

For The Shorewomen (8-5)
- Schaber (11 kills), McKechnie (16 assists), Fairchild (seven digs)
- Washington hit .081, notched four blocks and totaled one ace.

For Catholic (7-8)
- Brittany Connatser (11 kills), Olivia Blondin (eight digs), Kelsey Miller (five aces), Grace Guerin (three blocks), Sydney Sheppard (10 assists)
- The Cardinals hit .288 while notching 16 aces and five blocks.

Notes
- Washington won the first meeting between the two teams in five sets on September 7.
