CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Sophomore forward
Kat Esposito (Severna Park, Md., Severna Park) scored a career-high four goals and the host Washington College field hockey team cruised to a 5-1 victory over the McDaniel Green Terror, on Wednesday evening at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium in the Centennial Conference opener for Shorewomen.
Washington College evens their record at 4-4 (1-0, Centennial) while the Green Terror fall to 4-4 (0-2, Centennial). Esposito scored the first three goals of the contest and now has a team-high ten markers this season.
How it Happened
-Esposito put the hosts up just 1:29 into the contest after coming up with a steal. She fired a shot on net that was initially deflected but the ball got tipped and bounced right back to her. Esposito then tapped in the loose change along the near post.
- Esposito scored a similar goal at the 11:53 mark as her initial shot was turned away by goalkeeper Mikayla Smith. However, the rebound came right back to her and Esposito was able to flick a high shot over Smith the second time around for the tally.
- The Shorewomen extended their lead to 3-0 at the 38:40 mark as Esposito recorded her first career hat-trick. The ball was deflected into the right side of the circle, Esposito gathered it and sent a hard shot just inside the far post from ten yards out.

Celia Long (Worcester, Pa., Methacton) scored just seconds before the third quarter horn following a penalty corner. Classmate
MaryCate Anson (Newark, Del., Newark Charter) flicked a pass to the far post and Long was all alone to stuff it in from point-blank range.
-Esposito made it 5-0 at the 48:38 mark after converting a gorgeous backhand shot to the high center of the cage.
- The visitors finally got on the board with five minutes remaining on a goal from freshman midfielder Dillan Williams.
