Mules Top Shorewomen, 70-64

Sanders Scores Career-Best 22 to Tie for Game-High for Washington

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Visiting Muhlenberg scored nine of the game's final 12 points in the last 1:25 to come away with a 70-64 win over host Washington College Saturday afternoon at Penny J. Fall Gymnasium in Centennial Conference women's basketball action.  The Mules are now 7-7 overall and 6-3 in the Centennial, while the Shorewomen fall to 10-5 and 6-4 respectively.

How It Happened
- Washington would take its biggest lead of the game of four points, 12-8, with 3:26 to go in the first half on a jumper by Andrea Prestianne.
- Muhlenberg countered with an 11-2 run to take a 19-14 lead with nine seconds left on a jumper by Jenna Stockfeder before WC's Amari Faust answered with a layup to beat the buzzer and the guests led 19-16 after one.
- In the second quarter, the Shorewomen outscored the Mules 17-13 to take a 33-32 lead into halftime.  Kaitlyn Boggs converted a layup with 1:27 left in the second to cap the scoring and give the hosts the one-point edge after 20 minutes.
- Joy Sanders put Washington ahead 46-44 on a jumper with 4:03 remaining in the third before Muhlenberg responded with a 7-0 run to take a 51-46 lead with 1:31 left on an Ava Connolly three-pointer.  Sanders answered with a basket 16 seconds later to trim the lead to 51-48 and that would be the score after three.
- Trailing 54-50 with 7:01 to go in the fourth quarter, Washington scored nine of the next 11 points to lead 59-56 with 3:34 on a Sanders jumper in the paint.
- Tied at 61-61 following a basket by Prestianne with 1:53 to go, Muhlenberg would take the lead for good on a triple by Connolly with 1:25 remaining, 64-61. 
- After a WC miss, Connolly was fouled and canned two from the line to make it 66-61 with 47 seconds left.
- Prestianne would answer with a three to cut the lead to 66-64 with 35 seconds left and the hosts would foul Connolly five seconds later.  Connolly drained both to make it 68-64 with 30 ticks to go.
- Muhlenberg would make two more free throws and held Washington to just one shot the rest of the way to close out the contest.

For The Shorewomen (10-5, 6-4 CC)
- Sanders (career-best 22 points to tie for contest-high and game-best three steals), Prestianne (15 points), Lizzie Hudock (nine rebounds), Karry Kelliher (four assists)
- Washington shot 37% from the field (26-for-70), 25% from three-point range (2-for-8) and 71% from the foul line (10-for-14).
- Washington held a 43-41 edge in rebounds and had 13 turnovers in the contest.
- The Shorewomen held a 14-12 advantage in bench points, 12-11 edge in second-chance points, 4-2 in transition points and outscored the guests in points in the paint 36-22. 

For Muhlenberg (7-7, 6-3 CC)
- Margaux Eripret (22 points to tie for game-high and contest-topping 13 rebounds), Connolly (14 points and six assists to lead all players), Abigail Scheidel (13 points), Stockfeder (two steals)
- Muhlenberg shot 39% from the field (23-for-59), 36% from behind the arc (10-for-28) and 61% from foul line (14-for-23). 
- The Mules had 13 turnovers.

Notes
- Both teams scored 10 points off turnovers in the game.
- The largest lead in the game was six points by Muhlenberg following Scheidel's free throw with 15 seconds to go that provided the final margin.
- Sanders prior career-high was 21 points in a 62-59 win over New Jersey City University on December 29.
