Shorewomen Fall in Overtime at Gettysburg, 62-57

Sanders post career-high 23 points in defeat

Gettysburg, Pa. – A Kaitlynn Boggs (Freshman/Lindwood, N.J.) lay-up with 17.4 seconds remaining tied the matchup at 53 to send the game into overtime. The Shorewomen started the extra-frame slow, failing to score until the final two minutes remaining when Joy Sanders (Senior/Baltimore, M.d.) knocked down a long-two to end the Bullets' 6-0 start to overtime. WC would not get any closer as Gettysburg closed out the matchup with a 62-57 win at Bream Gym. The Shorewomen fall to 11-6 overall and 7-5 in the Centennial, while the Bullets move 10-5 and 7-3 respectively.

How It Happened
- In a back-and-forth first period, Karry Kelliher (Sophomore/Severna Park, M.d.) made a jumper in the final seconds to give the Shorewomen a 13-12 lead.  
- Midway through the second, Gettysburg used a 12-3 run to build a 32-24 lead, the largest of the first half. 
-A pair of baskets by Rachel Theim (Junior/Sykesville, M.d.) and Sanders cut the Bullets' lead to 32-28 at the break. WC finished up the first half shooting 37.9% from the floor. Sanders paced the Shorewomen with 11 points in the first half while Kylie Holcomb knocked down three of Gettysburg's five first-half triples to lead the Bullets with 9 at the break. 
- The game remained tight in the third period as WC kept it within four the entire frame. A pair of Mackenzie Szlosek free throws pushed the Bullets' lead to 40-36 at the end of the third. 
- Both teams continued to trade scores in the fourth with WC tying the game through a Kaitlynn Boggs lay-up with 17.4 seconds remaining. That would be the final score of the fourth as Gettysburg missed from three at buzzer, sending the game to overtime tied at 53. 
-Gettysburg scored the first six points of the extra frame before a Sanders basket cut the Bullets' lead to 59-55. Gettysburg would continue to hold their lead for the rest of the period, winning 62-57. 

For The Shorewomen (11-6, 7-5 CC)
- Joy Sanders led the Shorewomen with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Andrea Prestianne (Senior/Kennett Square, P.a.) added 10 points and 8 rebounds. 
- WC shot 32% from the floor (22-for-69), 30.8% from three-point range (4-for-13) and 90% (9-for-10) from the foul line in the game.
- The Shorewomen split the rebounding margin evenly 45-45 including a 14-11 edge on the offensive glass.

For Gettysburg (10-5, 7-3 CC) 
- Marriane Szlosek led the Bullets with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Kaitlynn Holcomb and Alayna Arniole both added 11 points. Shinya Lee also added 7 rebounds and 5 blocks off of the bench. 
- The Bullets shot 37.3% from the floor (22-for-59), 34.5% from three-point land (10-for-29) and 40% from the foul stripe (8-for-20). 
- The Bullets finished with a 23-14 advantage in bench points.

Notes
- Joy Sanders' 23 points marks a career-high for the senior. 
-This marks the Shorewomen first overtime contest of the season.
