Fords Outlast Shorewomen in Five Sets

Moran Records Third Double-Double of Season

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Visiting Haverford won the last six points in the fifth and deciding set to come away with a 3-2 (25-19, 23-25, 25-17, 25-27, 15-8) win over host Washington College on Wednesday evening in Centennial Conference volleyball action at Penny J. Fall Gymnasium.  The Fords improve to 7-10 overall and 2-1 in the Centennial, while the Shorewomen drop to 6-12 and 1-2 respectively.    

Haverford 3 Washington College 2 (25-19, 23-25, 25-17, 25-27, 15-8)

How It Happened
- Leading 20-18, the Fords won five of the final six points to win the set by six points with Claire Jordan netting an ace to clinch the set.
- In the second set, the Shorewomen went on a 5-2 run to end the set turning a 21-20 deficit into a 25-23 win.  An attack error by Haverford put Washington ahead 22-21 and Chelsea Elliott tallied a finisher to give the hosts a two-point win.    
- The Fords never trailed in the third set on their way to an eight-point win.  Eliana Brown clinched the third set on a kill.
- There were 13 ties and six lead changes in the fourth which saw Washington force a fifth and deciding set with a two-point victory.  Down 25-24, Colette Franck registered a kill to tie it at 25-25 and an assisted block by Elliott and Angelina Schaber put the Shorewomen ahead 26-25.  Allison McKechnie served up an ace to clinch the set for WC.
- Haverford was nursing a 9-8 lead in the fifth set before going on a 6-0 run to take the set and match.  Jordan notched a kill to start the run for the Fords and Izabela Potocnjak recorded the kill to secure the match for the guests.

For The Shorewomen (6-12, 1-2 CC)
- Kleinbussink (match-best 17 kills; three aces), Schaber (12 kills and four blocks), Franck (10 kills), Raegan Moran (21 assists and 10 digs), McKechnie (22 assists), Gianna Romano (15 digs and three aces), Victoria Kile (team-high 21 digs)
- Team hit .124 in the match and registered nine blocks and aces.

For Haverford (7-10, 2-1 CC)
- Jordan (team-topping 14 kills; four aces), Brown (13 kills), Taylor Jones (12 kills and five blocks), Kira Chaney (11 kills), Kayla Chu (44 assists to lead all players and 17 digs), Téa Kuzbari (three aces), Juliet Young (match-bests of 22 digs and five aces), Potocnjak  (five blocks for tops in match)
- The Fords hit .180 in the contest, had 10 blocks and 15 aces.

Notes
- Kleinbussink was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewoman Player of the Match.
- Moran had her third double-double of the season.
