CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Visiting Bryn Mawr got the game-winning goal from
Novy Goetgeluk with 2:14 to go in the second quarter from
Ilona Bender to snap a 1-1 tie and overcome an early deficit in a 2-1 win over host Washington College in a Centennial Conference field hockey game on Wednesday afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Owls improve to 8-6 overall and 3-4 in the Centennial, while the Shorewomen fall to 7-7 and 3-4 respectively.Â

How It Happened

Samantha McMahon scored 57 seconds into the game as she stole a clearing attempt from a Bryn Mawr defender and slipped it into the left side of the cage to put Washington ahead 1-0.
- The Owls tied it with 1:22 remaining in the first quarter when
Sophie Vagts dribbled the ball down the right side and crossed it into the goal mouth and
Charlotte Hauptman was able to poke it in to make it 1-1 and that would be the score after one quarter.
- Bryn Mawr took a 2-1 lead with 2:14 remaining in the second quarter as Goetgeluk redirected a pass from Bender at the far left post and the Owls would take a one-goal lead into halftime.
- Despite holding a 9-0 shot advantage in the third, Bryn Mawr could not extend its lead and would take a one-goal lead into the fourth quarter.
- Washington held a 2-1 edge in shots in the fourth quarter, but could not find the equalizer.Â
Alexis Tackney took the team's final shot with 9:01 to go, but it went wide. The last chance came with seconds to go, but the Owls cleared it to end the game.
