CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Visiting #17 Swarthmore got two goals by
Veronica Gibbons, one in each half, on its way to a 2-0 win over host Washington College on Wednesday evening on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium in a Centennial Conference women's soccer game. The Garnet is now 11-2-2 overall and 7-1-1 in the conference, while the Shorewomen drop to 6-5-4 and 3-4-2 respectively.

How It Happened
- Washington nearly took the lead in the fifth minute as
Emily Morris' shot from 25 yards out had to be tipped over the crossbar by Swarthmore goalie
Sofie Aird.Â
- Swarthmore would get onto the board with 5:45 left in the opening half as
Marea Lee's pass was redirected by
Lauren Lior and it found the foot of
Veronica Gibbons whose shot from about 25 yards out found the back of the net to give the Garnet a 1-0 lead which it would take into halftime.
- In the second half,
Emily Morris had a shot on goal in the 53rd minute and
Gina Phillips in the 74th minute, but Aird turned both away.
- Gibbons got her second of the night and gave Swarthmore its insurance goal with 3:35 to go in the game as she headed in a corner kick pass from
Keren Maze to give the Garnet a two-goal cushion.
- The Shorewomen's last chance to break up the shutout with less than 10 seconds left on an
Audrey Flanagan shot, but it was saved by Aird and the clock ran out.
