Shorewomen Outlast Bullets 2-1

Two goal third period propels Washington to Senior Day win.

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College utilized a pair of third quarter goals to jump out to a 2-0 lead over the visiting Gettysburg Bullets in a Centennial Conference Matchup. Gettysburg made the game interesting late in the fourth quarter but were unable to even out the scoreboard. The Shorewomen snap a five game losing streak in their home finale.

How It Happened 

- Neither team would find the back of the net in the first half of action. WC was outshot 10-8 in the first half, but goalie Charlotte Schurman would pick up seven saves to keep the game scoreless. 

- Four Minutes in, MaaryCate Anson put the home team on the board with a goal off a pass from Alexis Tackney. 

- Forty-two seconds later, Samantha McMahon added a goal with an Assist From Brynn Balliet to go ahead two. 

- With 2:45 left in the contest, Hailey Rhine, assisted by Gaby Markunas, put the Bullets on the board. The visitors could not find the equalizer. 

For The Shorewomen (8-9, 4-6 CC) 

- Scorers: Anson (goal), McMahon (goal), Tackney (assist), Balliet (assist), 

- Goalkeeper: Schurman (9 saves, 1 goals allowed, 60:00) 

- Kate Gromacki: Defensive Save 

- Washington had 15 shots and six penalty corners in the game. 

For Gettysburg (6-10, 2-8 CC) 

- Scorers: Rhine (goal), Markunas (assist) 

- Goalkeeper: Emilia Saccento (6 saves, 2 goals allowed, 60:00) 

- The Bullets had 14 shots and seven penalty corners in the match 

Notes 

- WC Coach Alex Calder secured a victory against her alma mater in the contest 

- The Shorewomen secure a win streak against Gettysburg for the first time since 2015 where they had won three straight matchups.
