Shorewomen Repossess Fords with Two in Fourth, 2-0

Swan Scores First Career Goal for Winner and Thomson Tallies Insurance Goal

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College scored twice in a span of 3:01 early in the fourth quarter to break a scoreless tie and come away with a 2-0 win over visiting Haverford in a Centennial Conference field hockey game on Wednesday evening on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.  Both teams are now 6-4 on the season with the Shorewomen 2-1 in the Centennial, while the Fords are 1-2.

How It Happened
- Washington took two shots in the opening quarter, but neither were on goal.
- Haverford got the game's first shot on target with 2:59 left by Erica Pardon, but it was stopped by Shorewomen goalie Charlotte Schurman and it would be scoreless at halftime.
- In the third, WC had three shots on goal, but the Fords' Mary Smith stopped them all.
- Washington broke through 53 seconds into the fourth quarter as Ashley Swan scored her first collegiate goal near the right post redirecting a Kate Gromacki feed from the top of the circle.
- Kendal Thomson scored the insurance goal just 3:01 later as she redirected a Samantha McMahon pass near the left post to give the hosts a two-goal lead.
- Haverford could not muster a shot the rest of the way and only had one penalty corner in the final 11:06.

- Scorer: Swan (goal), Thomson (goal), Gromacki (assist), McMahon (assist)
- Goalkeeper: Schurman (2 saves, 0 goals allowed, 60:00)
- Washington had 13 shots and seven penalty corners in the contest.

- The Fords had four shots and four penalty corners in the game.

Notes
- Swan was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewoman Player of the Game during the broadcast.
- Washington downed Haverford for the second straight year by a 2-0 count.
