Shorewomen Blank #16 Bears for First Time, 2-0

First Win over Ranked Team in 12 Years and Second All-Time Triumph Versus Ursinus

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College scored two first quarter goals and made it stand the rest of the way to shut out visiting #16 Ursinus for the first time, 2-0, in a Centennial Conference field hockey game on Saturday night on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium.  The Shorewomen, who are now 7-4 overall and 3-1 in the Centennial, picked up their second all-time win against the Bears and registered their first win over a ranked team since a 5-3 win over #18 Mary Washington on October 11, 2011.  The Bears drop to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play this season.

Washington College 2 #16 Ursinus 0

How It Happened
- Washington would get all the scoring it needed 10:43 into the first quarter when Zoe Shevitz received a short pass from Kendal Thomson and blasted it from the top of the circle into the left side of the cage to put the hosts ahead 1-0.
- Samantha McMahon gave the Shorewomen a two-goal cushion with 1:25 to go in the first quarter after she gathered a Brynn Balliet pass and was able to poke it home from about five yards out.  Balliet redirected a pass from Faye Dorman who had the pass that entered the circle.
- Ursinus got its first shot on goal 2:22 into the second quarter by Ellie Bruggeman, but it was stopped by Charlotte Schurman.  It was the lone shot on target in the stanza and the Shorewomen took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
- The Bears took four shots in the third, two on goal, but could not dent the scoreboard, while the Shorewomen could not convert any of their four shots, three on goal, in the third quarter.  The closest either side came was with 5:29 left on an Alexis Tackney shot, but Maeve Montgomery was there for the defensive save for the Bears.
- Schurman made her final save of the game of the game with 8:52 left when she turned away a shot from Mary Lauren Franz.  Ursinus had two shots the rest of the way, but both went wide and WC came away with its first shutout of the Bears.
