Volleyball Falls Against Garnet

Shorewomen fight back but unable to pick up set.

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Washington College volleyball played host to Swarthmore on Wednesday night in a Centennial Conference matchup. The Shorewomen dropped the opening set after a late rally fell just short. The traveling Garnet continued to build large leads in both sets two and three, ultimately taking the match in three sets.

Washington 0 Swarthmore 3 (22-25, 17-25, 14-25)

How it Happened:

-Swarthmore started fast on the road, jumping out to a 16-5 lead in the opening set. The Shorewomen would respond to get back into the set with a 16-6 run of their own, forcing the Garnet to call a timeout with just a 22-21 lead. Out of the stoppage, Swarthmore found their groove, scoring three of four points to take the set.

-Set two saw another fast start by the Garnet, jumping out to a 14-5 lead. The Shorewomen sparked another run to cut the lead to 19-15. Despite the charge, three straight errors by Washington gave the Garnet the cushion they needed to take set two comfortably in the end.

-The Garnet continued their early set dominance with a 14-7 run to start set three. The Shorewomen were unable to muster up a run to get within reach this time as Swarthmore cruised to an 11-point win.
