WC Falls to Marymount 57-48

Strong Fourth Quarter Not Enough to Retake Lead

ARLINGTON, Va. - Visiting Washington College took a quick four-point lead with a pair of underneath baskets to start the game before host Marymount responded with a 12-0 run and never gave the lead back to the Shorewomen in a 57-48 win on Tuesday night in non-conference women's basketball action at the Converse Family Fieldhouse.  The Saints improve to 4-2 on the season, while the Shorewomen fell to 2-1 on the season.

How It Happened
- The Shorewomen struck first with a jumper from Serena Pluta followed by a layup from Abby Meredith in the first 1:25 of the game.
- The Saints would retake the lead with a 12 straight points in the opening quarter, capped by a Symantha Shackleford three-pointer with 3:54 to go. The Shorewomen would trail for the remainder of the night as the Saints led 15-7 after one quarter.
- WC was outscored 18-10 in the second quarter to trail 33-17 at halftime and 20-17 in the third quarter to trail 53-34 after three. 
- The Shorewomen outscored the home squad 14-4 in the final stanza, but the effort was not enough as the Shorewomen fell by nine. 

For The Shorewomen (2-1)
- Karry Kelliher (team-leading 16 points and five rebounds), Pluta (12 points, four rebounds), Kaitlyn Boggs (eight points, three blocks, three steals)
- WC Shot 30.6% underneath, (15-49) 28.6% from three, (4-14) and 60.9% from the free throw line (14-23)
-The Shorewomen outscored the Saints in the paint 16-14 and held a 33-31 edge in rebounds. 

For Marymount (4-2)
- Claire Smith (team-best 15 points, four rebounds), Shackleford (11 points, two steals)
- Marymount shot 35.6% underneath, (16-45) 37.5 % from the arch, (6-16) and 82.6% at the foul line (19-23).
- The Saints led in bench points with 17-4.
