Strong Fourth Quarter Not Enough to Propel Shorewomen in 69-57 Setback to Bullets

CHESTEROWN, Md. – Visiting Gettysburg topped host Washington College, 69-57, in a Centennial Conference women's basketball matchup at Penny J Fall Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.  The Bullets improve to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the Centennial, while the Shorewomen fall to 3-3 and 1-2 respectively.

How it Happened
- The Bullets jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter with 7:26 to go in the first on a Mackenzie Szlosek basket before the Shorewomen answered with seven points of their own to tie the game at 7-7 with 4:53 remaining on a Peyton Berger three-pointer. 
- Gettysburg scored the final 10 points of the first to lead 17-7 after one as a three-pointer by Alanya Arnolie with 3:02 left put the visitors ahead for good.  
- Washington College rallied at the end of the second quarter to cut the deficit to three off a pair of late jumpshots from Abby Meridith as Gettysburg led 23-20 at the break.  The Shorewomen held a 13-6 edge in the second.
- The Bullets outscored the Shorewomen in the third quarter 28-11 to lead 51-31 after three quarters, but WC outscored the visitors in the final quarter 26-18 to provide the final margin.  

For the Shorewomen (3-3, 1-2 CC)
- Serena Pluta (team-high 14 points and five rebounds,) Meredith, (12 points and two steals) Kaitlyn Boggs (nine points and eight rebounds) 
- The Shorewomen went 21-57 (36.8%) from the field, 9-26 (38.5%) from three-point distance and 10-16 (62.5%) at the free throw line.
- WC held a 42-26 edge in rebounds.

For Gettysburg (5-2, 3-1 CC)
- Arnolie (team-high 18 points and 4-9 from the behind the arc), AB Holsinger (17 points, team-high three steals and 4 assists) 
- The Bullets went 21-50 (42%) from the floor, 9-26 (34.6%) from three-point range, and 18-25 (72%) from the foul line. 

Notes
- Pluta was named GooseNation TV Shorewoman player of the game on the broadcast.
- WC's Kiersten Rose added her second straight game of 10 rebounds.
- The two teams met three times last season where the Bullets led the series 2-1 including a postseason victory.
