Falcons Fly Past Shoremen, 69-56

Skrocki Scores 16 Points to Tie for Game-High

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Visiting Messiah got a double-double of 16 points, which tied for the contest-high, and a game-best 11 rebounds from Caleb Thompson in a 69-56 win over host Washington College on Saturday afternoon on Finnegan Court at Penny J. Fall Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference men's basketball game.  The Falcons are now 4-7 on the season, while the Shoremen drop to 3-8.

How It Happened
- Jason Zielinski would give Washington its last lead of the game, 9-8, on a three-pointer with 14:02 left in the first half before Messiah scored the next seven points to lead 15-9 with 12:14 remaining in the half on a Dylan Cuperus jumper in the paint.  Thompson put the Falcons ahead for the rest of the game at 10-9 with 13:33 to go on a jumper in the paint.
- Leading 23-20 with 7:44 to go in the stanza, Messiah scored the next nine points to lead 32-20 with 3:01 remaining on an Evan Parker triple.  The Shoremen scored six of the last eight points to trim the lead to 34-26 at halftime.
- Zack Skrocki made jumper in the paint that trimmed the lead to 43-38 with 13:53 to go in the second half as five points was as close as WC would get it in the second half.
- Messiah led 59-53 following a 10-3 run by Washington before going on a game-closing 10-3 run of its own to put the game away.  Bryce Coletti began the contest-sealing run with a three with 4:42 to go.

For The Shoremen (3-8)
- Skrocki (16 points to tie for game-high and four rebounds), Davis Bland (13 points), Rodolf (six assists to lead all players), Sam Corrao (three steals)
- The Shoremen shot 40% (21-for-52) from the floor, 50% (14-for-28) from three-point range and did not attempt a free throw. 
- Washington had eight turnovers.
- The Shoremen outscored the Falcons in points off turnovers (16-6) and transition points (5-2).

For Messiah (4-7)
- Thompson (16 points to tie for game-best and contest-high 11 rebounds), Coletti (15 points and five assists), Cole Fisher (14 points and three steals), Cuperus (11 points)  
- The Falcons shot 55% (27-for-49) from the field, 39% (9-for-23) from three and 43% (6-for-14) from the free throw line.    
- Messiah outscored WC in bench points (35-25), second chance points (10-0) and points in the paint (28-14).
- The Falcons had 13 turnovers in the contest, while outrebounding the Shoremen, 40-16.  The visitors did not allow an offensive rebound by the hosts in the game.

Notes
- Skrocki was named the Goose Nation TV Shoreman Player of the Game.
- The two teams were meeting for just the second time as Messiah won 91-82 in the 2002-03 season.
- Today was the last non-conference game of the season for the Shoremen.
- The 14 made three-pointers were a season-best for Washington.
