STAUNTON, Va.– The Washington College baseball team kicked-off the 2023 season in Virginia with a matchup against the Hampden-Sydney Tigers on the campus of Mary Baldwin. After falling being 2-0 early, the Shoremen scored three times in the second to take a lead. Hampden-Sydney would re-take the lead in the fourth and add on throughout the rest of the way in a 14-4 win.Â
How It Happened
- Hampden-Sydney started the scoring with a two-run homer by Ethan Currin in the top of the first.Â
-The Shoremen battled back in the bottom of the second.Â
Drew Kinsey got things started with a single beforeÂ
Cole McGee delivered another base-hit.Â
Logan Yi plated Kinsey with a knock and thenÂ
Nick Miller drove in another. AnÂ
Erik Risnychok single drove in the third run of the inning as the Shoremen took their first lead at 3-2.Â
- The Tigers capitalized on Shoremen errors to re-take the lead with three runs in the top of the fourth, building a 5-3 lead.Â
- More Shoremen errors led to another run for the Tigers in the sixth as Washington starter Anthony Soffran was chased form the game.
Matt Corda came on in relief to hold the Tigers to just the one score for a 6-3 edge heading into the bottom of the sixth.Â
- The Tigers plated two more in the top of the seventh to give them an 8-3 lead.

Noah Iseman plated a run for the Shoremen in the bottom of the seventh, driving in
Logan Yi to cut the Tigers' lead to 8—4. Â
- Ethan Currin added his second home run of the game for the Tigers in the top of ninth as they added on for the 14-4 win. Â
For the Shoremen
Batting
- Yi went 2-for-2 with a walk and hit-by-pitch. Yi also finished with a run, RBI and stolen base.Â
