STAUNTON, Va.– The Washington College baseball team took on Mary Baldwin for their second game of the weekend. After dropping last night's contest, the Shoremen had junior Izaiah Santiago on the bump for his first start of the season. After an early Shoremen lead in the second, Mary Baldwin took the lead right back in the bottom half and then used a six run rally in the sixth to take a commanding 9-2 lead. The Squirrels would answer the Shoremen offense from that point for an 11-5 win at home.
How It Happened
- Washington took an early lead through a two-RBI double by Chase Ruppel in the second. Mary Baldwin responded with three in the home-half to take their first lead.
-Both pitching staffs kept the offense in check over the next few innings. Santiago did not yield another run, finishing the game with 4.2 innings and three earned runs.
- Mary Baldwin got things going again in the bottom of the sixth with a six-run rally to extend the lead to 9-2. The Shoremen pulled a couple back in the top of the seventh with a 2-run homer by Erik Risnychok, the first long-ball of the season for Washington.
- Washington got another run back to make it 9-5 in the top of the eighth through a Cole McGee sac-fly plating Scooter SanFilippo. Mary Baldwin tacked on two more in the home half of the eighth to take the contest 11-5.
For the Shoremen
Batting
- Erik Risnychok went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer.
-Scooter SanFilippo finished 1-for-4 with a run and pair of stolen bases.
-Chase Ruppel 1-for-4 with a two-RBI double.
-Cole McGee, Drew Kinsey and Nick Miller each added a hit and run with Miller, Kinsey and Ty Everitt adding stolen bases.
Pitching
-Izaiah Santiago picked up the loss, giving up three runs over 4.2 innings.
For Mary Baldwin
Hitting
-Michael Barber and Brady Ward led the Squirrel's attack with three hits each. Ward finished with three RBIs as well.
-Ty Webster, Dylan Rankin and Blake French each added a pair of hits for the Squirrels.
Pitching
-Tucker Hensley took the win, holding the Shoremen to two runs over six innings of work.
