#14 Eagles Spoil Shorewomen’s Season Opener, 9-0

Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Host #14 Mary Washington topped visiting Washington College, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Tennis Center in non-conference women's tennis action.  It was the dual match season opener for both teams.

Doubles
- The Eagles won all three doubles to take a 3-0 lead.  Abby Moghtader and Amanda Hagino topped Piper Sartison and Irene Meng at No. 1, 8-0.  Hana Kimmey and Rebecca Stapleman won at No. 2, 8-0, over the Shorewomen's Bin Nguyen and Katie Ruppert in the second doubles match to conclude.  In No. 3 doubles, Mary Washington's duo of Emily Beckner and Riley Smith prevailed 8-5 over Washington's Eva Kading and Soleil Namunyola in the last doubles match to finish.  

Singles
- Hagino won at No. 2 over Sartison, 6-0, 6-0, in the first singles match to end.
- Smith clinched the match for the Eagles as she topped Isabella Sorhegui, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 6.
- Stapleman prevailed, 6-1, 6-0, over Namunyola at No. 4.
- Moghtader, ranked 17th in the Atlantic South Region, downed Meng, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 1 in the fourth singles contest to conclude.
- Beckner bested Nguyen, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5 in the next match to finish.
- In the last match to end, Kimmey topped Kading, 6-3, .

Notes
- The Eagles, ranked fourth in the Atlantic South region, are 1-0 on the season, while Shorewomen are 0-1.
- Mary Washington is named for the mother of George Washington.
