Shorewomen outlast Dickinson in Overtime, 56-48

Prestianne scores 16 in playoff upset.

CARLISE, Pa. – The Washington College women's basketball team travelled to Dickinson Tuesday night for the first round of the Centennial Conference tournament. After falling at Dickinson by 26 at the beginning of February, the Shorewomen flipped the script on defense to hold the Red Devils to just 48 points in 45 minutes of game-time. Clutch rebounding and free-throw shooting in OT pushed the Shorewomen to the 56-48 road upset and the semi-final round of the conference tournament.

Washington College 56 Dickinson 48

How It Happened
- Dickinson started the game on a 7-0 run before Karry Kelliher (So./Severna Park, Md.) got the Shorewomen on the board. The rest of the first period was owned by the Shorewomen. Andrew Prestianne (Sr./ Kennett Square, Pa.) closed the period with a 5-0 run that gave Washington a 13-9 lead.
-The Shorewomen continued to shoot the ball well into the second frame, opening up a seven-point lead early in the period. The Red Devils responded with a run of their own, controlling the final five minutes of the first half to tie the game at 24 for the break.
- Both teams struggled to score in the third period. A Joy Sanders (Sr./Baltimore, Md.)  pull-up two tied the game up at 30 with only 3:30 remaining in the period. Washington then finished the period with a pair of baskets to take a 34-32 lead into the fourth.
- Both teams found some offense and traded baskets early in the fourth. The Shorewomen held a two-point lead before a Lindsey Hollenshead lay-in tied the game for the Red Devils with just under four minutes to play. Neither team would find points over the next 2:30 before Andrea Prestianne took a trip to the foul-line and put the Shorewomen up 44-42 with :57 seconds remaining.
-Dickinson would re-take the lead 45-44 with a Clair Marion triple with :36 seconds on the clock. Washington responded by getting senior Lizzie Huddock (Sr./Salem, N.J.) to the line. Huddock split the pair of free throws to tie the game with :28 seconds remaining. Dickinson dribbled out the clock and got a clean look at the buzzer but the shot bounced off of the iron, send the game into overtime.
- Prestianne got the first score of the extra period with a free throw on the first possession. After a few empty trips by both teams, Kiersten Rose (So./Upper Marlboro, Md.) hauled in an offensive rebound before being sent to the line. Rose nailed both free throws to put the Shorewomen up three in the extra frame. Dickinson cut the lead to two before a Serena Pluta (Jr./Townsend, Del.) jumper put Washington back up four with 1:28 remaining. After a defensive stop, Andrea Prestianne was sent to the foul line and nailed both free throws to push the lead to six with just :30 seconds remaining. Another stop and pair of Prestianne free throws sealed the 56-48 win.
