Shoremen Drop Home Opener to #11 Generals, 15-10

Shoremen Keep It Tight for Three Quarters Before Generals Pull Away Late

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Washington College men's lacrosse team played host to #11 Washington and Lee in a non-conference matchup for the home opener of the season.  After falling behind 2-0 early, the Shoremen scored three-straight to end the first period with a one goal lead. The Generals answered with six scores in the second to take a two-goal halftime lead. After keeping it within two goals the entire third quarter, the Generals were able to break through the Shoremen defense to pull away with a 15-10 win.

How It Happened
- The Generals' Will Schnorr got the scoring started with a finish inside of the first minute. Shortly after, Hudson Pokorny extended the lead to two. The Shoremen grew into the game and took a 3-2 lead after an Ewan Temple goal in the final minute of the first gave Washington the lead heading into the second. 
 
-Washington and Lee quickly got things tied up in the second when Joey Allen found Hillis Burns for the Generals' third goal. Just over a minute later, Henry Holliday found Joey Allen for a goal to re-take the lead at 4-3. Allen then created a third goal for Burns as the General's scored three in the opening five minutes of the second quarter. Ewan Temple stopped the General's run with his second goal of the game to make 5-4 halfway through the second period. Brady McFalls then tied things up for the Shoremen after Ewan Temple found him in front of net. Both teams traded goals before Allen scored his second of the game after picking a turnover by Cole Corrigan to take a 7-6 lead. Adam Lamberti then made the Shoremen pay for another turnover with a second goal in forty seconds to take an 8-6 at the half. 
 
-The Shoremen got things started in the third period after Connor Garrison found Brady McFalls behind the Generals' defense for an easy finish. A minute later, Logan Clefisch tied things up at 8. Sam Mannino fired the Generals back in front halfway through the third period. Joey Allen then pushed the lead to 10-8 with his third goal of the game. TC White pulled one back with an unassisted goal to make it 10-9 with 4:53 remaining in the third before the Generals added on another to take a 11-9 lead into the fourth.  
 
-The Generals built the first three-goal lead of the game when Joey Allen scored his fourth with 11:19 remaining. Burns quickly added another to push the lead to 13-9. Cory Morgan stopped the run for the Shoremen to make 13-10 with 4:29 remaining. That would be the Shoremen's final score as the Generals added two more for a 15-10 road win.  
   
For The Shoremen (1-1)
- Scoring: Ewan Temple (two goals, two assists), Brady McFall (two goals), Connor Garrison (one goal, one assist), Logan Clefisch, Cory Morgan and Kain Domenech with one goal. Ben Dickinson with an assist. 
- In Goal: Cole Corrigan (60:00, 15 goals allowed, 12 saves) 
Gabe Velasquez went 8-for-18 in face-offs and picked up a game-best six ground balls.
- Washington was 16-for-22 in clears in the contest and was 1-for-6 on the man-up.

For The Generals (3-0)
- Scoring: Joey Allen (four goals, four assists), Sam Mannino (three goals, one assists), Hillis Burns (three goals), Adam Lamberti (two goals), Hudson Pokorny (one goal, one assists). Will Schnorr and Leif Smith with one goal. Matthew Ezzell, Jack Elliott, Henry Holliday and Henry Reed with one assist. 
- In Goal:  Ryan Boyd (59:00, 9 goals allowed, 7 saves. Warren Seeds (1:00), 1 goal allowed, 0 saves)
Will Bou won 16-of-24 faceoffs for the Generals. 

Notes
- Ewan Temple was named GooseNationTV player of the game.
